Description

Yautja are powerful aliens from a distant planet that roam the worlds of the Milky Way to hunt the most dangerous species they can find. Since they have had the technology to travel great distances of space, they have made contact with Earth, and hunted regularly during the warmer seasons, and in the hotter parts of the planet. A favourite is the jungles of the Earth. Usually hunting alone, they hunt out the most worthy prey to take the skins of the lesser opponents, or the skull & spine of the most worthy. They have a strict code of not attacking unarmed opponents, the sick, very elderly, the very young or the pregnant, only killing those of them they consider a threat. A few that have been thrown out of their families or clans will attack indiscriminately. A few clans hunt in small groups, especially against the deadliest opponents, or as part of their rites of adolesence, where they mare marked out to become full adult members. A hunted individual that puts up a worthy fight (usually those that best one, kill one, or fight along side one against the worst species of the galaxy), are given a trophy and / or marking, and can even be accepted into a clan.   They are larger than most sentient species, and deadlier. Each Yautja have powerful muscular bodies, standing anywhere between 7 to 8 feet tall, with a smallish mouth of razor sharp teeth, and four mandibles jutting out at the corners. They have what looks like thick dreadlocks jutting out of their heads in place of hair, and go through rituals to attach jewellery & markings to them. During this stage they cannot show any pain or weakness. Their skin is mottled in browns, greens, greys, and similar colours. Their fingers & toes end in sharp strong claws. They sometimes have small bonelike spines growing out of patches of skin.   They have two unique features that make them distinct:

  1. Their blood is sticky and seems to be copper-based with some type of biofluorescence built in.
  2. The Yautja seem to see in the infrared & ultraviolet ranges similar to the darkvision of others, and seems to be far more acute. They wear visors or helmets regularly that can change the spectrum of these that help them see better.
Many will have shrines with the skulls of worthy prey, and the hides of lesser prey. In many cases these are kept in their clan's home base, or flag ship, wherever they may be. A few will keep recent kills close by, and have the remains that are left over hanging up within easy travel distance.

Ideals

Only the most dangerous of species are worth my attention.

Bonds

My clan and our honour count, along with the most worthiest of hunt marks.

Flaws

My people can kill any prey given time & training. I sometimes underestimate my prey because of this.

Suggested Environments

Warmer climates.

Wrist-mounted AI. The yautja regularly has a wrist-mounted AI unit bonded to their skin when worn. It is linked neurally to them and the rest of their equipment. It can be used for a number of purposes:

  • If reduced to 1 Hit Point by an opponent in a single turn the yautja can enter a countdown code that causes it to explode. Everything within a 3 mile by 3 mile by 3 mile cube is caught in a plasma explosion causing 200 40d20 necrotic damage.
  • It can be used to change it's helmet HUD to another band of light-wave, allowing it track opponents easier, giving the yanthi advantage to Perception rolls.
  • It can be used to playback speech of prey species allowing the yautja to quickly learn segments of it's prey species language. +1 to Intelligence rolls involving speech.
  • It has a built in cloaking device that when activated can make the yautja near impossible to see. It gives disadvantage to all forms of ranged attacks, and a -5 to hit in melee.
Helmet. The yanthi has a helmet that feeds it certain gaseous elements allowing it to breathe in other atmospheres. When worn it has advantage on Constitution saving throws. It also has a mounted targetter linked to the HUD, giving it advantage on ranged attacks with it's plasma caster.   Armour. The yautja armour naturally blocks heat radiating out from it. Any attack or Perception roll against an armoured yanthi has disadvantage.   Natural Climber. The yautja gets either advantage or a +5 to climbing up or down depending on how the rules for climbing are used.

Actions

Multiattack. The yautja makes three punch, claw, dagger, and/or wristblade attacks, in any combination.   Punch. Melee Attack Roll +9 to hit, reach 5 ft, one target. Hit 26 2d10+6 bludgeoning damage.   Claw. Melee Weapon Attack +9 to hit, reach 5 ft, one target. Hit 30 2d10+10 slashing damage.   Throw. The yautja can grapple an opponent instead of a punch or claw attack. Roll for damage as normal, but the opponent is knocked prone for one turn, and the yanthi cannot use this as part of a Multiattack.   Dagger. Melee Weapon Attack +9 to hit, reach 5ft, one target. Hit 30 2d10+10 piercing damage.   Wristblades. Melee Weapon Attack +9 to hit, reach 5 ft, one target. Hit 35 2d10+15 piercing damage, plus 7 2d6 bludgeoning damage.   Plasma Caster. Ranged Weapon Attack +10 to hit, reach 30/80 ft, one target. Hit 50 8d20+10 fire damage.

Legendary Actions

The yautja can do one specific legendary action on Initiative Roll 20 (failing on matched rolls). It can only be done on prone or incapacitated opponents, or opponents at 1 or 0 hit points. This takes the place of one of it's normal attacks. The action is as follows:

  • Tear Out Spine / Skull. The yautja sticks it's claw into the lower spinal region of a victim, ripping out the spine & skull in one deft movement. No Death Saves can be made against this, and the victim has to make a DC 23 Constitution saving throw and immediately killed outright. Not even a Wish spell can be used to restore the victim.
