The Overlook Inn

The Overlook Inn is situated on a mountain pass that used to be travelled daily by local Celtic tribes. Many burials and sacrifices took place around the pass, with the tribes believing that to do so would bring them protection from both the gods & ancestors while travelling through the pass.   Menhirs, solitary oak trees, and mounds are common in the region. Here the locals in the past 5 years have decided to build a three storey inn, with an attached tavern & stables. The thought being that it is a stable enough pass to allow travel for much of the year as long as no-one decides to go off the road. To do so is dangerous especially in winter when there is snow & ice usually waist deep. Blind falls, rock falls, and sudden gusts of wind are regular all year, with wintery conditions making it worse. Also, the pass is the only one at a reasonable level for many many miles around. The region is irregularly patrolled by local militia, mainly to prevent bandits and recover corpses.   The inn itself is a mix of local stone, and wood (mainly oak). Unfortunately the owners live in the nearest large town and rarely travel there unless there is significant problems. With it built out of local stone and oak wood, nobody at first questioned where these came from, but now are. With a high turn-over of staff, an inability to keep long term patrons, locals have started to also notice strange goings-on in the inn and close to it, has raised suspicions that it is either cursed and/or haunted. At least three spectral undead have been reported within the inn, one of an elder lady dressed in primitive clothing appearing in the largest rooms at the top floor causing havoc, a man in his prime again in primitive clothing seems to pick fights at all hours, and a young child is seen out of the side of the eye, giggling & laughing running in and around the stables spooking everyone and the horses.   Odd sounds, smells and cold spots appear around the rooms of the inn, and accompanying buildings. Items move, disappear, or reappear in different locations. Sometimes people are pushed out of bed or of chairs & stools, or feel that there is something in the room with them. A few have reported being scratched, showing of three scars each time. Some also claim to have felt a presence straddling or lying on top of them while they wake up in bed. Disembodied voices have been heard, and some have been touched by cold hands. The horses, and dogs when with their masters cannot stand to be anywhere near the property and need constant attention to keep them calm.
