The Necronomicon

The Necronomicon, or the Book Of The Dead, or Kitab al-Azif, was wrote by the Mad Arab Abdul Alhazred. It was given the name Necronomicon only after it was translated into Greek. Originally wrote in Arabic by Alhazred before his sudden and mysterious death in 738 AD. It is the book that he was inspired to write after he became a worshipper of Yog-Sothoth & Cthulhu. Also, he had visited Babylon, subterranean Secret places under Memphis, and the Empty Quarter of Arabia. Many philosophers, magic users, cultists and mad men try to seek the book out to delve into its secrets. Anyone reading it either is driven insane or meets a gruesome end. It pushes 1000 pages, made of some type of leather and has metal clasps. Wherever it appears madness and death follow and it soon disappears, and then reappears somewhere else. It is rumoured that the Vatican keeps it, or at least a copy of it.   The book is rumoured to be a list of spells, rituals & treaties concerning the Elder Evils & Star Gods. This has led many occultists to try hunting it down. Many look to copy or use the information in it, and others to work out how to avoid summoning or communicating these monsters. Many other religions look to destroy it, or at least lock it away to prevent the use of the magic within.
"What can I say? I made the mistake of getting my hands on that blasted book. Gods damn me to Niflheimr!! When I read that passage I realised my mistake. There's more than the bloody Kraken & Jörmungandr to worry about under the sea. Now, all I can dream about is R'leyha and those creatures of strange shapes. The angles & dimensions of those structures too. Constantly twisting and warping, just like the rest of my dreams. And now my eyes do the same at anything I look at, twisting & subverting the natural shapes to Hel knows what. I feel the pages itself are alive, calling me to read more, for it to teach me the language of the ancients, and how to summon them.   They change, all the letters change, twisting & turning into different shapes. Each one now meaning something else, sounding different. Wanting to be spoken aloud and forming new blasphemies. I've tried to get rid of the Necronomicon since, yet it always appears back in some way around me. How? I do not know!! The dreams of something getting closer behind the walls of my home is also getting louder, and the walls themselves are buckling into strange outlandish shapes. I know my time is not short, and the book is to be retrieved & passed on to others, somehow, somewhere, somewhen. By the time this happens I will have either disappeared from this world or lay there dead by my own hand."   Note found in the house of Siggi Gunaldsson. He has never been seen since having a breakdown after visiting Uppsala & talking to the priests.
