The Hofgothi and the Gothi

Hofgothi are priests found in many Germanic tribes, especially in the north in and around Scandinavia. They are make primarily in human societies, with the odd woman. They take care of the temples. They primarily are more religious than the average people, and they also fulfil political and judicial roles too when a religious touch is needed. The males are often classed as Seidr (comes from them being viewed as less manly for using runic magic in place of fighting). They have a strong connection to Uppsala where the main temple is, though many rituals can and are practised differently throughout the Germanic peoples. Some with the knowledge can see slight similarities though. This seems to be more for local, tribal, and clan beliefs than actual religious belief.    The Gothi are usually the leaders of the communities and take on the role of leading worship or calling for sacrifices and other offerings. They also call upon the gods when there is specific duties to be done, and the gods help or appeasement will help. This can be anything from harvest-time, to a Viking raid, to an important childbirth.   Dwarves have them too, and have slightly more women in their ranks than human societies. Both are interchangeable, and welcome to lead practices. High Elves & especially Wood Elves have elements too that fill this role & title, but rarely mix with others. This is partly due to the mentality & cultural differences between the Elves & other races.
