The Dhampir

The origins of Dhampir go back to the Slavs. There is the belief in many Slavic people that certain humans are born naturally as living vampires, or created by being drained by a vampire and left near to death only to return. They believe that the bodies of the latter return with a demon for a soul, and the former is born with one. Both have a ring of truth. Where a pregnant woman is impregnated of fed upon by a vampire and proceeds to give birth, the child will grow into a Dhampir with all the strengths of a vampire but very few of the weaknesses. Also, if a person somehow survives being drained, and they are buried, said person will return as a Dhampir as the usual process of turning is partially interrupted.   In most cases the Dhampir is hunted down and killed. They may have their heart cut out and burned, the whole body burned, their head cut off and placed at their feet, nailed into a coffin, and a whole host of different tactics to stop them returning. A few though escape, and if they can stave off their thirst for blood, many go on to become legendary monster hunters, tough only whispered of, to stop them appearing in person.   Each Dhampir is different, as how they are created, who they were before the change, what they are like afterwards, and what skills & knowledge they have. Some are warriors, others spellcaster, and a few can become clerics, druids, and rangers. They seem to avoid becoming paladins & bards. The former just for the rarity, and the latter because it would attract too much attention. Most also seem to come from Eastern Europe and the Eurasian Steppes.
