The Crystalline Orbs

The Crystalline Orbs are a rare set of heavenly infused items spoken of in hushed tones in many religions higher orders. It is ssaid only 12 existed, but only one, maybe two are known to remain in the world. Ornaments of extreme beauty and mystical power, it is rumoured that they were created by the gods in early time and placed in the hands of many religous sects for safekeeping until needed.

History

The Crystalline Orbs were cvreated by the gods in a time lot forgotten before the race of Man came into being. Each put a little bit of their power into them, and had both Celestial script & mystical patterns carved into the crystals. The bodies of each was made out of the purest celestial silver and a fine latticework of celestial white gold bonded to it's external surface.
Each holds great power in it's own right, holding aspects of many many gods, and was designed as a link to them so they could guide the mortal races to the heavens. They refused to let any gods of destruction, evil, chaos, and death put a portion of themselves into the twelve to prevent the Orbs being corrupted. When the older mortal races arose the gods started to send these Orbs to them to guide the races to a better future, and as a means to protect them from the predations of the evil deites. Over time the younger mortal races appeared and the gods supplied the remainder to them fortheir protection.
Unfortunately, through the corruption of some of the mortals, most have disappeared over time believed lost, stolen or destroyed by the dark forces that were kept out by them. Some scholars believe that a few may have been put beyond use by being held in places or sent to Planes no mortal can ever hope to get to. Others are believed to be corrupted and turned by the evil deities for their use.
There are myhts concerning one, or maybe two, in the Mortal Plane, on the world of Earth.
One tells that an Orb is in the Middle East, passed around the old Persian & Arabic empires inspiring many early nations & religions. Various threads of the story tells that it was part of the Ark of the Covenant, that it was moved with the latter to Etheopia, lies buried in the Tomb of Christ, or hidden in Mecca. Any of these could be true, and even other resting places could hold it.
The second is rumoured to have been in the hands of Confucian monks in China and held by an inpentritable monastery tucked away in the Himaylas, the steaming jungles of one of these Asian countries, in the treasury of the Tang Dynasty viewable only by the Emperor himself, or even mythical Shangri La. 
Stories tell of individual Orbs being used for different effects. The slowing of time, the destruction of the dead & the fiend, the living being enhanced and healed, are a few of the abilities mentioned. Stories tell of the dragons and the Star Gods being affected too though mostly born in the Material Plane or only linked spiritually to the Far Realms. 
Many have tried to track these down, and few have returned, at least unscathed. Most that return are marked by severe injury, whether mentally and/or physically, though always spiritually. By touching the Orbs or even the metal holdings are enough for many to be affected by many strange & unintened effects. Sometimes individuals are not of the right persuasion or try using it incorrectly, others also understimate the power obe of these. Nobody has ever tried two or more before at least in living memory. The power of more than one is said to be so overwhelming that only the most spiritually strong of individuals are capabile of withstanding the spiritual energy given off by these.

"There is one somewhere to the west, in the mountains. The Buddhist temples there speak of such an Orb, and the power it contains. Supposedly found in Shangri La, the power contains is of the gods themselves. Able to keep Shangri la hidden is one of it's powers, and only the will of the people there able to withstand and manipulate the spirit of the Divine.
If you search for it, do not think you can use it for anything except for the betterment of life. To do so will make it turn it's attention to you. And if you try taking it, most Shangri La, and those who follow the Ways of the Buddhist, Confucium, and others will become your enemy too. It is not yours to take, for it is for the world and needs to be kept safe."
