The Blade Kin Organization in The True Dark Ages | World Anvil

The Blade Kin

The Blade Kin are a mercenary guild based in mainland Europe. They fight for the highest bidder and are completely loyal to anyone who pays them well enough. Many humans, elves, dwarves and half-orcs are found in their ranks. Each chapter is led by a captain, and these chapters are found within the capital of each country. The main chapter headquarters are found in Aachen at present at the bulk of the guild is fighting for the Franks against the Saxons. They have a strict code of never killing children or unarmed women, no rape, no massacres or unnecessary killing of prisoners, no looting unless it involves the ransacking of an evil creature, the captain's word is law, and all contracts are sacrosanct (no breaking of the contract even for better pay). They generally take in any type of fighter and can give training where necessary. Barbarians and rangers are sometimes welcome as they bring unique skills & outlooks to the regiment. They also refuse to fight other Blade Kin regiments due to loyalty to the guild. Males and females are both welcome, though the person usually has to be over 18 and usually retires from active service at 40 (if they live that long).    The highest ranking captain in the guild is labelled a general, and is at present in Aachen. This position usually changes every three years between the captains, and the person is voted in by their peers. They use strongholds where they can as a guildhall, though usually don't make a big fuss about decorating the outside of it with their banners or markings. The guild has been in existence for 43 years and has already built up a good rapport with many people due to how it conducts business.
