Nereids are the Fey of the sea in Greek mythology. There is meant to only be 50 of them, and all daughters of Nereus, and Oceanid Doris, and sisters to Nerites. They regularly accompany Poseidon, as well as being friendly & helpful to sailors. Crowned with red coral they regularly sing & dance round their father, and represent all that is kind & helpful about the sea. Each is viewed as being beautiful maidens. They seem to be tied specifically to the Aegean Sea.
