Loxodon Species in The True Dark Ages | World Anvil

Loxodon

Loxodon

Loxodon are 7 to 8 foot tall beings that are essentially bipedal elephants. Large & intelligent they are quite peaceful as a species. Most generally work closely with nature, and can almost rival Dwarves with their stonework. As a species they are found on only two worlds: Earth (two sub-factions exist, one from Africa, and one spread across Asia & the Indian subcontinent), and Ravnica. Fully grown they weigh between 300 to 400 pounds.

race features:
Powerful Build. You count as one size larger when determining your carrying capacity and the weight you can push, drag, or lift.   Loxodon Serenity. You have advantage on saving throws against being charmed or frightened.   Natural Armour. You have thick, leathery skin. When you aren't wearing armour, your AC is 12 +your Constitution modifier. You can use your natural armour to determine your AC if the armour you wear would leave you with a lower AC. A shield's benefits apply as normal while you use your natural armour.   Trunk. You can grasp things with your trunk, and you can use it as a snorkel. It has a reach of 5 feet, and it can lift a number of pounds five times your Strength score. You can use it to do the following simple tasks: lift, drop, hold, push, or pull an object or a creature, open or close a door or container, grapple someone, or make an unarmed strike. Your trunk can't wield weapons or shields or do anything that requires manual precision, such as using tools or magic items or performing the somatic components of a spell.   Keen Smell. Thanks to your sensitive trunk, you have advantage on Wisdom (Perception), Wisdom (Survival), and Intelligence (Investigation) checks that involve smell.
Standing seven to eight feet tall, Loxodons are elephantine humanoids. Heavily built and tough not much can bring them down. They respect peace & wisdom above all else, and have strong ties to nature.   No-one is sure exactly where they came from though they seem to have arisen naturally in at least two worlds. One is the world of Earth and the other is Ravnica. On Ravnica, nothing seems to remain at all to how or where they came from. On Earth, they seem to have descended of native elephants. Considering Loxodons are found in Africa, Asia and the India subcontinent, this is borne out. A few extremely old ruins are scattered around in these countries, covered in the dirt of ages, and overgrown. According in old legends they evolved the same time as the Yuan-Ti, and some old bas-reliefs on the old ruins seem to show battles between them.   Certainly on Earth, they are a rare sight, especially outside their home regions & in cold environments. Loxodon numbers were never high compared to many other sapient creatures, and after their main powerbases were either overrun by others, including the Yuan-Ti, or abandoned after catastrophes, they never fully recovered. Most now live in societies of other sapient creatures and fulfil judicial roles, while in others they are classed as semidivine & act as spiritual leaders. A number also live in their own settlements, which are structured in peaceful, well run & ordered societal lines with little conflict. It is not to say they will not or cannot defend themselves, and to see them fight back is to see the closest thing to a thunder god smiting their enemies.   They are quite well travelled in the regions they reside in, and respected for their innate wisdom. Outside of these regions they have a tendency of scaring others who have no idea such beings could ever exist.
