Jurate and Kastytis Myth in The True Dark Ages | World Anvil

Jurate and Kastytis

In what becomes Lithuania, this story is passed down. Jurtate was a sea goddess living in on the seas floor in a palace made entirely of amber.   Kastytis, a fisherman, catches too many fish one day and this attracts Jurate, who is sworn to protect the fish. She comes up to were the young fisherman is, and upon seeing him falls in love. They start then to have an affair.   After a while, Perkunas (the local god of thunder) finds out about this and is horrified. No mortal and god should be in such a relationship, so destroys the amber palace killing Kastytis in the process. After this happens Jurate is heartbroken and cries delicate tears of  amber that wash up on the beach regularly.
