Half-Orcs Species in The True Dark Ages | World Anvil

Half-Orcs

Half-Orcs are individuals that are products of one parent a humanoid, and the other an Orc. Sometimes the product is consensual, sometimes not, and in the majority of cases it is the need of the Orc to want to mate takes over. This is something of an imperative for the Orc species, to aggressively reproduce, harkening back to their primal nature as such as aggressive species. The child will always be stigmatised except in the Orc clans where they are found to help bridge the gap between different species, and add more flexible individuals & numbers to their hordes.   Each Half-Orc feels the call of the Orc gods heightening their aggression, and war-like nature. They are stronger than most other species, and can be quite tough to bring down, along with an innate understanding that they are born for war. Each is taller than their non-Orc parent, and has a greenish-brown tint to their skin that varies between individuals, and in many cases their canine teeth (a sometimes a few others) are longer and sharper. The face of a Half-Orc is a mix of both, and the nails on their fingers & toes grows sharper & stronger too. For them to act in human (or other non-Orc) societies, they regularly become soldiers, mercenaries, and hunters putting their aggression to use. When round these societies they stay at the edge of them due to the potential for violent outbursts. They can easily breed with Orcs producing young that are nearly pure Orcs, or with their other parent's species producing nearly pure young of them.   Most societies outside of Orcs, don't trust Half-Orcs as they are a reminder of a vicious brutal foe. This can lead to small settlements made up of purely Half-Orcs, that are interspersed throughout regions. The strongest concentration of Half-Orcs is in mid & southern Britain, where Orcs are also present in high numbers. A few are found in continental Europe, where both the Half-Orcs & Orcs have travelled to act as mercenaries or raiders, so this is leading to a slight increase at present in the continent when more come through either birth or migration.
