Giza Settlement in The True Dark Ages | World Anvil

Giza

Giza is a city in Egypt, and is now ruled by the Abbasid Caliphate after they defeated the Umayyad Caliphate. It sits on the Giza Plateau and sits on the bank of the Nile, and south west of Cairo. The Great Sphinx, and the Pyramids of Giza sits just at the edge of the city, and has a necropolis of sorts between the two as well as a few square miles of desert. The necropolis is home to the poorest of local society who has stripped the limestone coverings of the pyramids & some of the local tombs for building construction. Other large pyramids and temples can be found near Giza as well, in the surrounding land. It is important historically for the fact it is close to the Old Kingdom capital of Memphis. There is a large Coptic Christian community here, and a cathedral too, as well as a large mosque, and many smaller of the latter too.
