Emperor/Empress

The rank of emperor / empress, is the highest title a noble can attain. It outstrips a king, and is usually bestowed on a monarch who controls an empire. It is classed as being of equal or at least near equal to that of the Pope in Rome. Despite it being classed as a 'higher' form of monarch compare to a king there is no strict definition on the difference. The only technical side seems to point to the possibility of a king being in a position to pay tribute to another ruler, but an emperor does not.
