Changeling

Changelings are a breed apart. They are found in small numbers throughout the world living amongst humans & humanoid races. They sometimes form small enclaves away from other races. They are known to be indigenous to Eberron, with a few over time making their way to other worlds through magic or portals. They keep their abilities secret usually due to the Doppelgangers, and a certain enmity exists between the two races. Many changelings mask themselves when out in public, and make good rogues & spies. Indeed, quite a few find employment this way for groups like secret police to thieves guilds.

ability score increase: Your Charisma score increases by 2. In addition, one ability score of your choice increases by 1.

age: Changelings mature slightly faster than humans, but share a similar lifespan - typically a century or less. While a changeling can transform to conceal their age, the effects of age affects them similarly to humans.

alignment: Changelings tend towards pragmatic neutrality, and few changelings embrace evil.

Size: Medium

speed: Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Languages: You can speak, read and write a Common language (including Eberron languages), and two others of your choice.

race features:
Shapechanger. As an action, you can change your appearance and your voice. You determine the specifics of the changes, including colouration, hair length, and sex. You can also change your height and weight, but not so much that your size changes. You can make yourself appear as a member of another race, though none of your game statistics change. You can't duplicate the appearance of a creature you've never seen, and you must a form that has the same basic arrangement of limbs that you have. Your clothing and equipment aren't changed by this trait. You stay in your new form until you use an action to revert to your true form or you die.
Changeling Instincts. You gain proficiency with two of the following skills of your choice: Deception, Insight, Intimidation, and Persuasion.

In their true form, changelings are pale, with colourless eyes and silver white hair. It is rare to see a changeling in this form, as they usually change shape to accommodate the local human / humanoid racial characteristics. A casual shape with little to no nuances is referred to as a mask. Many changelings will use this regularly for general day-to-day life. Over time a changeling will adapt and start to fill out a specific appearance & persona. This allows them to fit in to a society better in the long term. They will gradually work out the details as & when needed. Over time a group of changelings will adopt a specific persona, always appearing as a specific type of person or a close relative of them. This leads to localised legends of specific individuals being extremely long lived or even immortal.
