Centaur Species in The True Dark Ages | World Anvil

Centaur

Centaur

Centaurs are originally of Greek origin, and some speculate that it was the ancient Greeks mistaking the mounted Steppes people for these half-human / half-horse beings.
ability score increase: Strength +2, Wisdom +1

race features:
Fey. Centaurs are Fey creatures, rather than humanoid. Charge. If you move at least 30 feet straight toward a target and then hit it with a melee weapon attack on the same turn, you can immediately follow that attack with a bonus action, making one attack against the target with your hooves. Hooves. Your hooves are natural melee weapons, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with them, you deal bludgeoning damage causing 1d4 + your Strength modifier instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike. Equine Build. You count as one size larger when determining your carrying capacity, and the weight you can push and carry. In addition, any climb that requires hands and feet can be especially difficult for you because of your equine legs. When you make such a climb, each foot of movement cost 4 extra feet, instead of the normal 1 foot of movement. Survivor. You have proficiency in one of the following skills of your choice: Animal Handling, Medicine, Nature, or Sorvival.
Centaurs survive in regions with wide open spaces, allowing them to travel far and wide, especially away from other civilisations. Many follow a raider style of life, using bows, curved swords, and spears as their main weapons. They wear little in the way of armour, preferring to use a mix of speed and light armour to avoid being hit back. One thing of note is that it seems that a number are tied in with the planeswalkers of a city called Ravnica. It seems that they are one of a number of species tied to the groups and guilds of this world covering city.   Centaurs of all types are human-like upper body, and the lower half being like that of a horse. Their skin colour is usually that of a tanned human, with hair matching the colour of the equine part of their body (this can be chestnut or bay, mottled, black, white, or even sporting zebra style markings. They usually fashion the hair on their head in a similar way to the hair of their tails.   Most have a strong sense of community, and for nature, no matter if they come from Earth or Ravnica. Most live in small tribal or clan groups on Earth with close contacts between friendly groups, and war (however rare) breaking out between rival groups. Sometimes those who are friendly with centaurs will hire them as outriders, scouts, cavalry units, or messengers. In both worlds they value nature and usually have lore-keepers keeping their history alive, and their connections to past traditions. Nearly all feel a close kinship to the wild, and wildlife, and when a foal is born it is a time for celebration. Each also have a close connection to their own clan & community, and the same connection for those in Ravnica to the guilds they serve.   Most are found in and around the old Greek states, and the northern & western regions of the Black Sea up into the Eurasian Steppes, and in the world of Ravnica.
