Carpenter / Carpentry Profession in The True Dark Ages | World Anvil

Carpenter / Carpentry

Carpentry is a necessary occupation. It allows for the wooden parts of a building to be constructed out of timber. This can be anything from the beams and posts of a building to the roof, and the doors to name but a few. They are also called upon to make any other structure out of wood, with some like gallows parts, timber bridges, and helping shipwrights build ships & boats.   They have connections to smiths, with both relying on certain work materials needed to finalise their finished products. The carpenters will help make handles and parts for other smith products, and sometimes need items like nails, knives and other tools to work. Each carpenter has a selection of tools for working wood such as saws, hammers, nails, chisels, sanding tools and the like for their work.   They have a set of skills that can be used by almost every other profession, and can become journeymen when there is large scale works going on near them. Many also produce furniture and basic household implements such as cabinets, bed posts, wooden cups, fireplaces and the like, with some specialising too. Even places like churches need them to produce pews and carry out woodwork on parts of them.
