Cairo Settlement in The True Dark Ages | World Anvil

Cairo

Cairo at present isn't the largest of Egyptian cities, and more akin to a town. Originally a fortress town called Babylon by the Romans (and built by them), on the east side of the Nile. The Coptic Church also used it for the nucleus of their faith. It was used by the Romans as a base, after Memphis started to decline in importance. It also was used as a stop over for trade, and Roman military excursions into other parts of Egypt. Eventually it started to grow, and after a while the Romans left, the city was took over first by the Umayyad Caliphate who made it their capital in Egypt, and then the Abbasid Caliphate finally took over after 750 AD.
