Bow of the Hunt
Bow of the Hunt
Weapon
Legendary
Every morning the user chooses either the Beast or Monstrosity keyword. Any creature that has this hit by an arrow fired from the Bow has the damage doubled.
The Bow is a +3 weapon, and does an extra 7 2d6 necrotic damage on top of any other damage.
Instead of choosing a Beast or Monstrosity the user can elect to have it do triple damage against a specific named target. This will prevent the Bow being changed to either Beast or Monstrosity in the meantime until the named target is hunted down and killed. The Bow must be withing minimum ranged distance for this. If not, the Bow's properties are permanently locked from use by the user forever after.
The Bow itself can be used once a week to do a massive amount of damage at quadruple the amount. The user says a word that they can choose to activate it before firing, and it must hit the specified target. Failure from missing the target, a Nat 1, or from the use of Antimagic, will force the user to make a DC 25 Con saving throw or take the damage themselves.
For the above ability, if it is failed three times the user of the Bow becomes a permanent viable target along with the Beast and Monstrosity options.
Created by the Umayyad Caliphate when they invaded the Iberian Peninsula it has seen a number of owners over the decades. The Caliphate had never encountered some of the animals and monsters found here and even more so to the north of the Peninsula. Given to hunters with known prowess in bows and hunting down large game it was passed from one to the other making it's way north. Eventually it was lost when the owner at the time was tracking a Yeti in the Pyrenees, who was ambushed by something more malignant near an old mine entrance. Exactly what it was is unknown but it left the bow behind making off with the hunter deeper into the mine.
