Tethynium

Tethynium is an alloy used in the construction of the ships of the Coalition Space Fleet. If it’s hit by a plasma weapon it absorbs and redistribute the energy, to reinforce the ship structurally and any excess is channeled into the shields.

Tethynium is manufactured by Tethys Mining Company on Lacedaemon. They keep the composition of the alloy secret, and all that is known is that they mine at least one component metal on Calypso, which is why the supporting town, near the mine, is also named Tethys. That’s also one of the main reasons why Calypso is strategically important to the Coalition.
