Tønsberg
Tønsberg is a city in Norway, located on the mouth of the Skagerrak Strait.
It is the oldest city is Norway, being founded in the 9th century. Are Frode and Snorri Sturluson both make reference to the city already being in existence by 871, and archeological digs have found evidence of human habitation on the sight dating back to the 8th century, likely a small farming settlement which eventually evolved into the town referenced in Sturluson's Harald Hårfagre's saga.
According to Asgardian records, the town was the site of a battle between the Asgardian Empire and the Jotun in 965, part of Laufey's Rebellion.
As a result of this direct contact with the Aesir, Norse Paganism was able to survive the Christianisation of Norway in Tønsberg.
When a prophesy by Mimir lead Odin to remove the Tesseract from Asgard, he entrusted it to a group of his worshippers in the city. It remained in the city, hidden beneath a church, from the early 15th century until it was found by Red Skull in 1942, following the Nazi invasion of the country.
