Madrid
Madrid is the capital and most populous city of Spain. It is the second-largest city in the European Union. It lies on the River Manzanares. It has been the capital city of Spain almost without interruption since 1561, and is also the political, economic and cultural centre of the country.
Madrid houses the headquarters of the UN's World Tourism Organization, the Ibero-American General Secretariat, and the Organization of Ibero-American States. Madrid is home to two world-famous football clubs, Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid. Its landmarks include the Royal Palace of Madrid, the Royal Theatre, the National Library building, and the Golden Triangle of Art, located along the Paseo del Prado and comprising three art museums: Prado Museum, the Reina Sofía Museum, and the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum.
In 2015, downtown Madrid was the site of a major battle between the Avengers and Ultron.
