Iowa
Iowa is a state in the Midwest United States of America, bordering the Mississippi River to the east and the Missouri River and Big Sioux River to the west; Wisconsin to the northeast, Illinois to the east and southeast, Missouri to the south, Nebraska to the west, South Dakota to the northwest, and Minnesota to the north. The state's capital and most populous city is Des Moines. Iowa has been listed as one of the safest U.S. states to live in.
Prior of colonisation, Iowa was home to Dakota, Ho-Chunk, Ioway, Otoe, Illiniwek, Meskwaki, Omaha, and Sauk peoples. During the 18th centuries, Iowa was part of Louisiana, and was included in the Louisiana Purchase. However, there was not widespread European colonisation until 1833, and it was made a state in 1838.
