Hindu Kush Mountains
The Hindu Kush is an 800-kilometre mountain range, which stretches from Afghanistan to Tajikistan, crossing through northeastern Pakistan. Towards its southern end, it connects with the White Mountains near the Kabul River. It divides the Amu Darya valley from the Indus River valley to the south. The highest peak of the range is Terichmir (7,708 metres) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan.
It has historically been a significant center of Buddhism, and an important trade route between Central Asia and South Asia. It has been the passageway for invasions of the Indian subcontinent, and remains important in contemporary warfare in Afghanistan.
