5.2. Inhumanity
Episode 1 - Lineage
The Nobili Crime Family are gathered for a memorial meal to remember the former patriarch. During the fish course, many members of the family undergo terrigenesis and enter cocoons. Gordon Nobilii and his two sons emerge from their cocoons, just as a rival magia family attack. His son Joey is killed instantly, as is his wife. His youngest son, Carmen, is horribly mutated and in terrible pain. Gordon and Carmen manage to fight off the Paguro Paguro, but after they're gone, Carmen kills himself because of the pain of his mutation. As Gordon cradles the bodies of his family, the spirit of his father appears, telling him he needs to escape before the police arrive. They discuss how he's supposed to hide when he's so visibly Inhuman, until Gordon realises that there's one place he will blend in - New Attilan.
On New Attilan, Black Bolt has a nightmare about leaving this brother Maximus to die. As he wakes, we see that he's sleeping in a muzzle, to keep him from crying out in his sleep. Medusa comforts him, but says that this can't continue. She suggests he talk to a professional, but he rejects her suggestion.
In the half-finished throne room, the King and Queen hear reports from various people about the state of the Island. Crystal reports that with Quicksilver's help, the building work is progressing quickly. Auran gives a report on the immigration numbers, and reports that they have only a handful of terrigen crystals left. Throughout it all, Medusa is the one paying attention and taking charge, with Black Bolt visibly distracted and disinterested. Medusa grows increasingly frustrated as the meeting goes on.
As Gorgon is reporting on the activities of the Advanced Threat Containment Unit,, a messanger arrives to tell him about a young Inhuman in Minnesota who has been cornered by the ATCU. Gorgon goes to respond and Medusa, who's hair has mostly grown back, goes with him, passive-aggressively commenting that she needs the work out some frustration.
They arrive in Duluth to find the ATCU are surrounded a stone barrier thrown up by Jaycen. Seeing them, the ATCU commander instructs his men to switch to live ammunition. The two of them working together take out most of the ATCU soldiers. When one who has escaped manages to get around the edge of the stone barrier, Medusa pushes Flint out of the way of a bullet, saving his life. Flint asks if he can return to New Attilan with them, as he has heard it's the only safe place for new Inhumans.
They arrive back on New Attilan, passing Jaycen to Frank McGee, who tells him they're what's called NuHumans, and asks him if he's thought what he wants to do on the island yet.
As Medusa heads back to the palace, Elejea meets her and tells her there is a recent arrival who thinks he might be able to help with the terrigen shortage. Medusa asks if the King can't see him, since she is tired from the fight, but Elejea tells her he has retired for the afternoon and isn't seeing anyone. Annoyed, Medusa goes to the throne room to meet Nobili, who introduces himself as Lineage, and says that he has access to the memories of one of the first Inhumans, which may assist them. Medusa agrees to hire him.
Episode 2 - The Reader
In Beijing, Xiaoyi Chen is running from government forces. She uses her pressure manipulation powers to make some ground troups float, and then temporarily changes the pressure around a chopper making it start to fall out of the sky. She stops before doing more than scaring people, visibly exhausted, but the chaos gives her a chance to slip away. She manages to disappear into a crowd, but is soon found again by another patrol. She's trapped between two groups of soliders, no where to go, when the Reader appears. He asks if she wants his help, and when she accepts, he reads the card 'Away', teleporting them to safety. They travel through China to Turkey, Xiaoyi attempting to get to know the Reader, or even where they are going, but he doesn't speak Chinese and the doesn't respond when she speaks to him in English, though his guide-dog Forey seems to like her. In Turkey, Xiaoyi is spotted practising using her powers, and the police are called. Xiaoyi subdues the male officers by crushing their genitals, but this doesn't affect the female officer. Just as Xiaoyi is about to be arrested, the Reader knocks out the last officer with his cane. For the first time since they met he speaks to her in English, telling her she did a good job. When she asks why he hadn't talked before, he tells her doesn't actually speak English, he's using a card to temporarily give him the ability. He finally tells her where they're heading, saying there's a group in Venice who are offering to take in Inhumans. His job is to find Inhumans who need help and take them there.
They arrive in Venice. In Ennilux HQ, they're taken to see the Capo, who reveals that Ennilux is actually a company who expects the Inhumans they 'rescue' to work for them. Xiaoyi is upset, especially when the Capo pays Reader a bounty for bringing her in. Realising she's essentially been sold into indentured servitude, she begs Reader not to leave her but he walks away without a backwards glance.
Xiaoyi is taken to a gym and told to demonstrate her powers. She initially refuses, but an Ennilux Inhuman uses his electricity powers to shock her. Furious she uses the ball-crushing technique she'd learned in Turkey on him, and proceeds to crumple all the gym equipment. The Capo, watching on a security camera, comments to his second in charge that she might be the one. He gives the signal and the trainer, who had recovered while she was destroying the gym walks up behind her and shocks her unconcious.
The Reader is sitting in a cafe drinking coffee. Forey is distressed, and Reader tells him in Greenlandic that he shouldn't get so attached to their bounties. Forey continues to whine, and Reader tries to justify his actions to the dog, before realising that he can't bring himself to just leave Xiaoyi in Ennilux given that he thinks she's the one Capo has been looking for.
Xiaoyi wakes up strapped to a table in a laboratory with electrode attached to her brain. Capo explains that his power is the ability to jump between bodies and as his current body is dying, he's been searching for someone powerful to be his new host. But before he can take over, her mind will be wiped, because it 'gets uncomfortable, having two minds in one brain'.
When the doctor goes to inject her with a sedative, she makes the needle float out of his reach. The electricity producing Inhuman starts to zap her again, but even while she screams in pain she begins to crumple bits of medical equipment, including the straps holding her. She rolls off the table, but armed guards burst in. Just as it looks like she's trapped, the wall explodes, revealing the Reader.
The two run, and Capo orders all personel to hunt her down, offering a bounty for anyone who brings her in alive. Xiaoyi uses her power to drop an Ennilux chopped into the lagoon, buying them some time. However, they take a wrong turn and end up in a dead end, seemingly trapped. However just as the Ennilux forces close in, he reads his 'Back' card, jumping them back in time a couple of minutes, allowing them to take a different route and find somewhere to hide.
Reader explains to Xiaoyi in a mix of mime and single English words that he can't use many cards before he has to sleep. He asks her to use her powers to make him sleep. Unsure, she tries lowering his blood pressure, and succeeds in making him pass out. She comments that is seems wrong that the big stuff is so easy when the little things are so hard. She and Forey settle in to wait for him to wake up.
They're found by a group of Ennilux guards. Xiaoyi manages to hold them off until Forey wakes Reader, who asks Xiaoyi where she wants to go. When she replies 'Hawai'i', he uses his Away card to teleport them there.
Later, in a diner with the 'English' card visible on the table between them, the Reader asks Xiaoyi where she's going next. She replies that she's going to the one place Inhumans are truely welcome.
Episode 3 - Homecoming
In Hawai'i, Xiaoyi asks around in Honolulu, and is told there is only one person who's willing to take refugees to New Attilan free of charge, but he can't make the trip at the moment because the harbour is patrolled by ATCU soldiers looking for unregistered Inhumans. On the Moon, Eric Selvig, wearing an A.I.M. branded space-suit, directs a crew of robots who are digging Eldrac out of the ruins. Beside him is Lockjaw, also wearing a space-suit. As he works, he complains to himself that being the first civilian to walk on the moon is a lot less impressive when there's a dog there at the same time.
When the robots finish their work, Selvig tells Lockjaw to go ahead, and he teleports Eldrac and himself down to New Attilan.
On Attilan, Eldrac is greeted by the royal family, who laud him as a hero and show him the room he's now installed in. Eldrac comments that it's very similar to the one he left.
Xiaoyi spreads a rumour about a dangerous Inhuman who is threatening to attack the ATCU, then uses her powers and her knowledge of engineering to collapse an empty building. Whe the ATCU go to investigate, she and Sammy sneak onto his boat, heading for New Attilan.
In the Bazaar, Frank and his partner, Auran, are tracking a lead in an investigation into the sale of fake terrigen. Jaycen runs into them and starts to tell Frank about how he's settling in, but Frank tells him he's working and can't talk. He suggests that if he's bored, Jaycen should head down to the docks and see if there's any new arrivals who need to be shown around. Jaycen, clearly bored and lonely, agrees.
Sammy's boat pulls in and Xiaoyi disembarks and is immediately greeted by Jaycen, who offers to show her around. They walk through the Bazaar, staring at all the strange people and the things for sale while above them, Crystal uses her powers to will a stone tower into existance, Pietro tiling the roof of the new building at super-speed when she's done.
As she starts asking him about finding somewhere to stay, several heavily armed Ennilux choppers arrive. In one of the choppers is the Capo, who demands Xiaoyi Chen surrender herself or they will open fire on the city.
Episode 4 - Capo
Xiaoyi is terrified that they will hurt people, and prepares to surrunder, but Jaycen reminds her that this is an Inhuman city. Sure enough, the Security Force and the royal family arrive to face the threat. Medusa has an Inhuman with the power to broastcast on radio frequencies project her voice and tells the chopper that they will never surrender one of their own. When Xiaoyi tentatively says that she's only been on the Island a few minutes, Medusa tells her that that doesn't matter as long as she's an Inhuman. The crowds in the bazaar scatter as the choppers open fire, but not everyone gets to safety in time and many people are injured or killed. Medusa's attendant Elejea throws herself in front of a bullet to protect a child, and is killed. Xiaoyi manages to bring down on of the choppers while the royals try to do crowd control when Black Bolt arrives. Seeing the chaos and the injured people, he says one word, "No", destroying the remaining chopper.
In the aftermarth, Lineage walks through the Bazaar, hearing complaints from the people about the royal families handling of the attack, and the belief that a lack of terrigen has resulted in too few or too weak powers, making the Island vulnerable. At the end of his journey, he reaches the chopper where he finds the Capo's body. As he examines it, the Capo's spirit is leaving his body. Lineage grabs it, merging them and making himself the new host. For a brief moment he appears to be incapacitated, but he regains control eventually, telling Capo that he's not the only one sharing Lineage's head and if he wants to speak he'll have to wait his turn.
Elsewhere in the Bazaar, Auran complains that the attack has disrupted their surveillance opperation, however Frank tells her that's not necessarily the case. We discover that Frank's power is the ability to follow leads, which appear as glowing lines for him to follow, like a video-game objective marker.
They follow the line, hoping that in the danger their suspect would have run to wherever he's hiding his stock. However, upon making their way into a basement they find not an terrigen forging opperation, but an anti-monarchy rebellion. Aura wants to throw the book at them, but Frank persuades her to keep it quiet, saying they might be niaive kids but they're not actually hurting anyone and where he's from, they have something called freedom of speech. He reminds her that they're supposed to be officers of the law, not soldiers of the crown.
In the throne-room, the royals are debriefing. Everyone else is afraid to answer thruthfully when Medusa asks what people are saying, but one of Lineage's ancestors tells him now is his moment, and he tells her that they're complaining about the lack of terrigen crystals leaving them vulnerable.
Black Bolt storms off and Medusa follows him. The two have a row because Medusa knows he's thinking of going back to the bunker to collect the emergency supply of crystals left there. She says it's too dangerous, but Black Bolt signs that he can't allow his people to be at risk, either from outside threats or from impure terrigen, citing Ahura's death as a reason why Medusa should agree. Furious, Medusa slaps him but Black Bolt just walks away, heading for Eldrac's chamber.
Calling Lockjaw to accompany him, he orders Eldrac to take him to the Moon, and Eldrac begrudgingly agrees, opening a portal. Walking through it, he steps into the bunker and finds Maximus waiting for him, wearing a headband made of terrigen crystals. Black Bolt freezes, as Maximus's eyes glow the same shade of blue as the crystals. After a moment, Black Bolt and Lockjaw's eyes also begin to glow.
Episode 5 - Officer of the Law
Back on Attilan, several hours later, Lineage finds the queen in her chambers, crying. When she asks what he wanted he starts to say something about the attack, and then admits that that was just a pretense to see her, because he was worried about her. He's clearly being manipulative, but Medusa doesn't see it - she's just glad to have a friend. While they're talking, Lineage finds the muzzle Black Bolt has been using the keep from blowing up the palace when he has a nightmare, and feigns concern for her wellfare.Crystal arrives to say that there's officials from Hawai'i who saw the explosions over New Attilan come to demand answers. Irritated, Medusa asks why Black Bolt isn't dealing with it, and Crystal replies that no one knows where he is.
Alarmed, Medusa realises he may not have come back from the bunker. She sends Crystal and Lineage to deal with the people from the mainland, while she rushes to Eldrac's chamber. Eldrac complains about creating two portals in one day, saying it hurts him, but Medusa insists and he eventually does what she asks, opening a portal to the bunker. Going through, Medusa finds it empty except for Lockjaw, his eyes glowing the blue of Maximus's new power, though it fades when she gets close.
In the throne room, a kind of council of war has gathered, consisting of the Royals, several senior members of the security force including Auran and Frank, Lineage, and Jaycen and Xiaoyi, all discussing the Ennilux attack, and what they're going to do about the ATCU, who are demanding they be allowed to inspect the Island following the attack.
Medusa storms in and informs them that Black Bolt and Maximus are missing, along with the world's last terrigen. The room errupts into chaos at the news, but she shouts it down. She orders Frank and Auran to begin looking for Maximus, while she will personally deal with the ATCU. Xiaoyi asks if she can help, since Black Bolt had been the one to take down Ennilux and save her, and Medusa takes her with her.
At the ATCU station in Honolulu, Medusa storms in and demands to speak to the captain. When he appears, she tells him there's two ways they can play this. Either they recognise New Attilan's independance, in which case nothing about the attack is their business, or they claim it as part of the United States and the brave citizens there repelled an attack on US Sovereign soil by terrorists, and in either case, the ATCU has no jurisdiction. When the commander tells her he does if they're harbouring unregistered Inhumans, Xiaoyi responds that he's welcome to search to Island just as soon as he gets a warrant, but adds that while she doesn't know much about the US legal system, she suspects getting a warrent to search property owned by the Avengers might just take a while.
At the bunker, Frank and Auran are examining the crime scene. As they work, Auran comments that this type of investigation is new to her, since the Royal Guard were 'soliders of the crown', referencing their conversation when they uncovered the anti-monarchist resistance. Nur tells her about his history with the NYPD, about being forced out of a job he loved a year before he was due to retire because he underwent terrigenesis, and how that lead to the collapse of his marriage and his teenage daughter not wanting to see him anymore.
They find the room where Maximus has been living, one wall of which is covered in notes and diagrams. They discover that Maxmimus has been doing experiments on rats. He had realised that he did get powers when he underwent terrigenesis, but his ability to influence people was so subtle that it was never detected, and so he was removed fromt he line of succession and treated as a pariah. It's clear Frank didn't know much about Attilanian society before this, and he's not impressed with what he's learning. Maximus's notes show how he was able to use the terrigen crystals to amplify his power, from suggestion to full on mind control. They also contain references that make no sense to Frank, but which Auran recognises as the Inhuman name for the Kree City giving them a location.
They take an Eldrac portal to Puerto Rico, where Frank's power leads him to a nightclub. They find Maximus, surrounded by young women with the same blue glow to their eyes, Black Bolt beside them. As soon as he sees them, Maximus orders the other patrons to attack them, however a bunch of civilians are no match for Auran. Seeing that that won't be enough, Maximus orders Black Bolt to kill them. As he opens his mouth to speak, Auran reminds herself 'officer of the law', and shoots Black Bolt in the shoulder. He cries out in pain, the force of it hitting Frank and Auran, apparently killing them both, before he falls backwards and it brings down part of the ceiling of the building. In the chaos that follows, Maximus is able to escape.
Episode 6 - The City
Auran arrives back on New Attilan, her wounds already starting to heal, carrying the injured Black Bolt. He's clearly badly hurt and barely holding onto conciousness, but he keeps trying to sign something. Lineage had been in the chamber when they arrived, talking to Eldrac, and Auran sends him to fetch the Queen. When she arrives, Black Bolt manages only a few signs, which Medusa translates for him - "Codex. The City. I'm sorry" - before he falls unconcious.Auran says that the Inhuman Codex is a myth, but Auran says that she'd found references to it in Maximus's papers, but hadn't known what it meant. Jaycen and Xiaoyi arrive, along with Gorgon and Triton, in time to hear Medusa say that myth or no myth, she's going after Maximus, and she knows where he's headed. The First City.
In Puerto Rico, Maximus reaches the ruins of the Kree City. Finding it flooded, he summons people from San Juan and orders them into the city to search for the Codex.
Medusa heads for the armoury, intent on going after Maxmimus. She tries to tell the others that they don't need to come with her, as this is her responsibility as Queen, but Gorgon and Triton point out that Black Bolt is their family too. Auran says that she wants revenge for his part in killing her partner, but the healers insist she's too badly hurt. However Xiaoyi and Jaycen both volunteer to go, Xiaoyi because she feels responsible, and Jaycen out of loyalty to Medusa.
At the Kree City, one of the divers emerges from the water. Around them we see the floating bodies of those who were unsuccessful and drowned in the attempt. The survivor is carring an object, a matt black polyhedron with Kree writing on the surface.
As he takes it from his hand, Maximus orders the man to kill himself, and he walks back out into the ocean. As he drowns, Maximus examines the object, apparently unconcerned about the death. Before he can open or activate the Codex however, Medusa and the other heroes arrive to stop him, teleported in by Lockjaw.
Seeing the terrigen crown Maximus is wearing, Medusa orders the others to protect it by any means necessary, as it's the last remaining pure terrigen on earth. As soon as she's finished speaking however, Maximus mind controls her and makes her attack the others.
In the fight that follows, Gorgon is able to restrain Medusa long enough for Xiaoyi to lower her blood pressure and knock her out. However, Maximus immediately controls Gorgon instead, who proves much more dangerous. Xiaoyi is knocked out and Gorgon turns on Triton. Jaycen tries to intervene, but is thrown to the side by one of Gorgon's hoof-stomps. Realising that if he doesn't do something, Triton is going to die, Jaycen apologises to the unconcious Medusa. Then, reminding himself that 'crystal is just a fancy word for rock', he uses his powers to crush the terrigen crystals on Maximus's crown into powder.
Instantly, Maximus's control over Gorgon is broken. When Maximus yells at him to keep going, Maximus inhales some of the terrigen dust, and collapses.
Later, Black Bolt wakes up to find a badly bruised Medusa sitting by his bedside. When he asks what happened, she tells him that the last terrigen has been destroyed thanks to his rash actions, and she's asking him to step down as King, because if he doesn't, she's going to have to put him in a cell alongside Maximus. From the doorway of the room, Lineage watches the scene with obvious enjoyment.
In New York, a Security Force member knocks at the door of Frank's old house and tells the teenager who answers that they have some bad news for her.
Meanwhile, in a basement in the Bazaar, the anti-monarchist group are meeting. They all scramble to their feet when the door opens. It's Auran, still injured and her eyes red from crying. She tells them she's in, and asks what their plans are.
Episode 7 - Maximus the Mad
We cut to the throne room, where the trial of Maximus is taking place. On the dias where there used to be two thrones, there's now only one. Although evidence is given by Xiaoyi and Jaycen about the humans Maximus killed, and Auran about Frank's death, Maximus objects, pointing out that the charge is high treason, and the lives of humans or NuHumans aren't a matter for Attilanian law. Despite this, he's found guilty.Lineage watches as Medusa reads the verdict - he's to be sent to the Prison, to serve a life sentence with no chance of parole. One of Lineage's ancestors explains the Inhuman prison is located in deep space, only accessible by teleportation, and that no one sent there has ever returned. Capo appears and points out that this might be the perfect opportunity to deal with the biggest threat among the royal family - Black Bolt.
Later, after the trial is concluded, the royal family along with Lineage, Xiaoyi and Jaycen meet to discuss the Inhuman Codex. They have scanned it and detirmined that it contains some kind of nanobots. Lineage says that his ancestors who were part of the first Inhuman experiments don't know anything about the Codex itself, but they know that that's how most Kree computers worked - someone has to merge with the nano-machines to get the knowledge inside. When the Queen asks whether it's single-use, he replies that it wasn't for the Kree, but for an Inhuman, who knows. It might not work at all, it might kill the host, or it might be destroyed upon activation. Despite the urging of various parties, including Karnak who is attending the meeting via video-link from Asgard, that they be allowed to use the Codex, the Queen declares it too dangerous and has it locked away.
After the meeting is over, Lineage makes his excuses to leave. He asks the ancestor who who was part of the original experiements if he's sure, and the ancestor replies that if anyone should know about second terrigenesis it's someone who assisted the Kree in their experiments. They ask if Lineage is sure he can do what needs to be done, and he replies that weird science is their thing, but crime is his area of expertise. Lineage then steals two things, the muzzle from the Queen's bedroom, and a keycard to the palace dungeons.
That evening, Black Bolt visits his brother in prison to say goodbye. He's obviously still recovering from his injuries but dismisses the attendant who had helped him walk there so he can be alone with his brother. He asks what happened to make Maximus into the monster he is, and Maximus asks in what way he's worse than Black Bolt, who endorsed slavery allowed his throne to be stolen and his city destroyed, and killed their parents. As Black Bolt prepares to leave, finally accepting that there's nothing he can do for Maximus, Maximus's eyes glow blue.
A moment later there's a cry for help, and the attendant who'd been waiting by the door rushes in to find Black Bolt collapsed on the floor. When he asks what had happened, Maximus just shrugs.
The next day, Maximus is taken to Eldrac's chamber, and sent through a portal to the Prison. The only member of the royal family not present (apart from Karnak) is Black Bolt, who we are told is too unwell to attend. As Maximus walks through, Crystal cries, and is comforted by Quicksilver who is there representing the Avengers as a neutral observer.
After everyone else has gone, Lineage stays behind. Eldrac complains about the pain of opening a portal to somewhere so distant, and Lineage says that his ancestors have told him that the Codex can show him how to reverse terrigenesis, and if Eldrac helps him to steal it, Lineage will give him his body back.
Lineage finds the Queen alone in the throne room, obviously troubled by everything that's happened. They talk, and she tells him about Ahura, and he tells her about his own kids and how much he misses them. He suggests that maybe what they both need is to get out the palace, stretch their legs a bit. He says he's recieved word of a young Inhuman who needs help, and suggests she answer the call personally, saying he will accompany her. She agrees.
They both step through one of Eldrac's portals, but after a moment, Lineage lands back in the chamber. Meanwhile Medusa is dropped into the middle of the ATCU headquarters, and is immediately surrounded by soldiers pointing guns at her.
Episode 8 - Queen of the Inhumans
Back on Attilan, Lineage waits for one of the guards protecting the Codex goes to the bathroom and then kills the other guard and takes the codex, opening and absorbing it. When a second guard comes back he goes to use his fire powers to stop Lineage, but Lineage is able to mirror his powers, killing him. Capo appears, saying that now they can take over New Attilian, but Lineage just laughs, asking why the hell he'd want the responsiblity for a city that's on the verge of collapse. He hadn't done this for power, he'd done it for revenge. In Eldrac's chamber, Eldrac is excited to see Lineage, but Lineage ignores him, instead mirroring his power and opening a portal. He comments that it does indeed hurt, before walking through it.
Auran comes to ask Eldrac where the Queen is. He confesses what he'd done, realising that he'd just been used and expecting Auran to arrest or even kill him. Instead she speaks into her communicator, telling someone on the other end 'It's time'.
At the ATCU base, Medusa is holding her own against the soldiers when Crystal and Lockjaw arrive. Medusa tells her that she thinks Lineage is going to steal the Codex, and Crystal says that she knows, and they need to go.
In Chicago, the head of the Panguro crime family is eating in a pizzaria when Lineage busts in. He uses the fire powers he learned earlier to kill the old man and his guards, cheered on by the spirit of his father. The police arrive, and he kills them too, before leaving to look for the members of his own family who'd abandonned him and his sons.
Medusa and Crystal arrive in Chicago to join Jaycen, Xiaoyi, and Gorgon. Up ahead they can hear screaming and there are people running for their lives as Lineage rampages through the city.
The five attack him, but as soon as he sees Crystal, he mirrors her power, hitting Medusa with lightning. When Crystal tries to return the attack, he copies Gorgon's power and stamps, opening up a fissure in the road that Crystal gets trapped in. When Flint attacks him, Lineage taunts him, telling him that he's the only know who knows the secret of the Prima Materia, the thing they need to make more terrigen. While Jaycen's distracted, he copies his powers, errecting a pillar of rock that lifts him far above the street.
Xiaoyi uses her powers to crumble the rock pillar, getting Lineage's attention. He takes her powers and uses them to break the bones in Gorgon's legs, commenting that these powers are fun.
Xiaoyi tells Jaycen that she has an idea and he just needs to distract Lineage. He does so, flinging chunks of rock at him, while Xiaoyi sneaks up on him. Seeing her, he starts to crush her the way he had Gorgon. Fighting through the pain, Xiaoyi tells him that copying the powers isn't the same as knowing how to use them. He says he's obviously managing just fine and she tells him that big is easy. As she lowers his blood pressure, knocking him unconcious, she finishes 'and small is hard'.
At the same time as Lineage is defeated, Auran and the resistance arrive in the throne room, officially claiming the palace for the resistance.
Much later, Medusa watches from a high window as the people of New Attilan vote in the Island's first ever elections. She and Black Bolt are in a bedroom, but it's much less grand than the one in the palace. As she turns away, she comments that maybe it's for the best, as they'd both made a mess of ruling. And at least now they'll have time to repair their marriage. As she speaks, her eyes glow the blue of terrigen crystals and the camera pans to reveal that the person she's addressing as Black Bolt is actually Maximus.
On the other side of the galaxy, in a place only accessible by teleportation, Black Bolt opens his eyes to find himself chained to the wall of a cell, a complex collar covered in flashing lights strapped around his neck. The Jailer stands over him, holding a syringe. As he bends over him, Black Bolt screams clearly intending it to incapacitate the Jailer, but nothing happens.
