Ranger

The walled settlements of the world are like so many points of light against the void of the night sky. Beyond those walls and the paltry domains kept safe by patrols, even the mightiest warriors and the wisest sorcerers are like blind men groping in the dark. Not so the ranger. Born and bred to the wilderness, rangers move through harsh terrain, raging weather, and beast-infested lands as if they were native fauna. Lightly armed and armored, these warriors rely on their experience to avoid unnecessary combat, preferring to outmaneuver foes and engage in raids and ambushes with the odds stacked in their favor.   Rangers thrive in the untamed wilds of the Thulean Frontier. As Mitteland grows more settled, frontiersmen find themselves drawn to the outer edges of civilization where they can better employ their unique abilities. If a ranger survives the many dangers of the wilds, they will tend to accumulate bands of followers, wardens to patrol the dark forests and make them safe for travel. They come to form personal relationships with local gods almost like a druid, becoming true masters of the land and its creatures.

Favored enemy and favored terrain

Forests are the most prevalent terrain type on the Thulean Frontier, but swamps and mountains are also common and considered, on average, more dangerous than forests. Grasslands are fairly common and there are some coastal regions on lakes. In the far north is an expansive and dangerous arctic region, but you will probably not be able to penetrate it for some time. Desert and Underdark terrain is rare and these would make a poor choice of favored terrain.   The wilderness of the Thulean Frontier is teeming with beasts, which would make a strong choice of favored enemy. Undead, monstrosities, and sentient plants are known to lurk on the edge of settled lands, and more far-ranging adventurers have occasionally reported giants, dragons, and the fey. If humanoid races are your favored enemies, humans would make an advantageous choice, as they are by far the most populous humanoid race in the inhabited world.
