Personal history

Kloy was born the second son of a Major Noble family that are vassals to a Greater Noble family ruling one of the demon cities outside the Demon King’s Castle. Kloy's family had long been known for their medical knowledge, a few having even had healing magic - such as Kloy's older sibling, Vaene. Vaene was only a decade older than Kloy, but they were considered the pride and joy of the family. Growing up, Kloy often felt lost in Vaene's shadow - no matter how hard he worked in studying medicinal knowledge, he could never compete with Vaene's magic and the instinctive knowledge of healing it gave them. So as an older adolescent, he gave up - he stopped trying to compete in a race he knew he could never win, and took up a lofty, free-spirited lifestyle that made his family very disappointed in him.   So disappointed that, as a young adult, they sent him with Vaene to the Demon King's Castle in the hopes that being away from home would temper him. It did not - if anything, it made him worse. It also put him in the path of the then Prince Ergirri. The pair became good friends - with Ergirri being prone to mischief of his own, and also having an impressive older sibling to contend with - his sister, Princess Gnavve. She was favored to be nominated as their mother King Worgae's successor - which, if she prevailed, would make her the fourth generation in their family to be King.    Ergirri, unlike Kloy, did not want his sister's position - but he did understand Kloy's frustration, and tried to help him manage the resentment he didn't want to have for Vaene. After all, it wasn't fair to blame them for being talented - nor for Kloy for not having magic. Despite Ergirri's streak for mischief being what drew the pair together, the prince helped temper Kloy - encouraging him to work in the medical ward instead of spending his days idly without judgment for his less studious behavior. Vaene still provided their own judgment, but not as harshly as the rest of their family.    When the time for King Worgae to announce her successor came, it was with considerable surprise to the court that Ergirri was her choice - not the favored Gnavve.    Kloy, of course, fully believed in this choice - while Gnavve was physically stronger, a trait greatly admired by demons, she didn't have the interpersonal skills a leader needed. Kloy knew firsthand that Ergirri was brilliant at reading people, and helping them meet their full potential - and he wasn't too bad with an ax, either.    Gnavve announced that she still intended to compete for the throne - which was, of course, her right to do so. She had many supporters, and the castle became at odds as its denizens were split between the siblings in the lead-up to the Royal Trials. Vaene and Kloy were also on opposite sides of the issue - but as Kloy was friends with Ergirri, Vaene was friends with Gnavve, so Kloy did not hold this against his sibling.    At least, not until Vaene poisoned Ergirri when Worgae left for the Hundred Years Ball.    When Kloy confronted Vaene, he learned the truth - Vaene believed that everyone had a place in the realm, and that Ergirri needed to learn his - as Kloy already had. And all the resentment and frustration Kloy had worked to let go turned to hatred - while he had been trying so hard due to his respect for Vaene's skills, his sibling had never had the same respect for him. He finally realized that what he had always thought was understanding on Vaene's part had been disregard for a brother Vaene saw as beneath them.    In outrage and grief, Kloy did the only thing he could - medicine. Likely, Vaene would not be punished for this act - it was not the demon way to do so. The only way to save Ergirri was if Kloy could create an antidote to Vaene's poison. He gained an unlikely ally in Gnavve - she was angered by Vaene's actions, seeing it as proof that her friend believed she could not beat her brother in combat. She insisted she wanted to beat Ergirri fairly - and with her help in gathering ingredients, Kloy was able to cure Ergirri - saving his friends life.    Vaene, incensed that their brother had been able to best them in any way and without the support of their former friend, returned to their family home. When King Worgae returned from the Hundred Years Ball soon after, the Royal Trials were held - and Ergirri Ascended as the next Demon King. Naturally, he chose Kloy to be his Royal Physician.    The two remained in close confidence during Ergirri's rule, so Kloy was one of the few members of the court unsurprised when Erigirri nominated his General, Jurao, as his successor and not one of his children. As always, Ergirri had an eye for things others didn't - but still, he asked Kloy to look out for Jurao, since he did not intend to retire himself just yet. Kloy agreed, bidding his friend farewell and remaining as Royal Physician.
