Hangman Willow Species in The Thirteen Realms | World Anvil

Hangman Willow

A demonic tree sometimes found in larger castle gardens.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Hangman Willows have small white spade-shaped leaves which grow in long tendrils from their branches. Their bark is a deep red, and flexible enough to not chip off when the tree moves.

Genetics and Reproduction

Pollen fertilization of seed pods and cuttings.

Ecology and Habitats

Hangman Willows grow best in damp environments.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Hangman Willows use their branches to capture and incapacity prey, which they then eat through the mouth in the center of their trunks between their branches. They can also use photosynthesis and absorb nutrients through their roots.

Behaviour

Hangman Willows tend to reach out to anything that walks under their branches, checking to see if they consider the object of their attention as prey or not. There are certain species of animals they do not predate on, as they can draw prey to obviously dangerous tree.

Additional Information

Domestication

Domesticated Hangman Willows are more cautious than their wild counterparts - wild Willows grow over hot springs in the mountains, the snow making their white leaves blend in better.
