Copper-throated Caller

A demonic bird that roams the grasslands of the Demon Realm.

Basic Information

Anatomy

A long-necked bird with a large wingspan and powerful legs adapted to running. It is capable of short bursts of flight, but prefers to remain on the ground. It has a crest on the back of its head. Rather than a beak, callers have scaley reptilian heads and necks. The legs are also reptilian - specifically raptor-like.

Biological Traits

Male callers have extremely long, colorful fluffy tails and matching long and fluffy head crests.

Genetics and Reproduction

Callers reproduce via egg-laying, which take a year to hatch. They typically lay three to four eggs at a time every three months or so.

Callers reach sexual maturity at three years of age.

Callers roam vast grasslands, nesting on the ground.

Callers are omnivores, able to eat smaller animals, insects, and even working together to take down larger prey.

Behaviour

Callers are named for their ability to produce a roar capable of causing permanent hearing loss at close range. They use this both to disable predators and catch prey, having softer calls for communication.

Callers form large flocks, finding safety in numbers. Young males often compete for female attention and mates, but only take one permanent partner in their lifetime.

Domestication

With the advent of animal husbandry, callers are kept as livestock animals. The domesticated variety has been carefully bred to have a softer call and smaller wings.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Callers are egg producers. Their meat and feathers are also common products.
