Chandrasekhar-Chirikov Hyperspace Gate

The monstrous techno-circle was a kilometre in diameter, with massive disc that is the portal space an impressive 750m wide. Drones and workers hovered around it, chekcing conduits, replacing GravTech shielding units, and inspecitng parts for servicability. Two lines of beacons extended out 5km from the portal space, an archaic but effective set of guides to vessels. Warning lights flashed to life around it, sending the workers to bounding into shelter bays and drones to the closest charging stations. A partical emitter in the center of the portal space opened, sending out a stream of barely understood theoretical particles into the space between the beacons. Hundreds of photonic arrays activated with a audible click that could be felt through the ring, focusing a few metres ahead of the emitter. A blue white flash followed, and a vibrant, wavy pool of bright blue liquid light phased into existence, filling the dish. Movement lights went red, and minutes later, a vessel erupted like a breaching whale from the portal. Trailing liquid light that faded into nothingness in out dimension, its ionic drives activated and moved it through real space, clearing the last beacon less than five minutes after completing the transition. The lights around the array dimmed, and went back to working illuminaiton mode, and the drones and workers remerged to continue their work.    Terrans had reached the limit of advance around the Sol System, with the Ionic Drive Engine System and GravTech based shield systems allowing crewed vessels to reach Pluto in 30 days. Unfortunately, faster than light travel in real space remained an impossibility. At least until hyperspace was discovered. Hyperspace is a parallel dimension, devoid of living beings as understood in our dimension, that appears to be filled with liquified light. It breaks multiple laws of physics and its contents can't exist in our reality. Gates are linked together using quantum entanglement, a key development that "locks" time in order to prevent relativistic effects from occuring. The actual mechanisms and how they work are, frankly, beyond the understanding of most people, even the technicians and operators. Likewise, the parallel hy[erspace dimension is poorly understood save that vessels and ultrarapid photonic data pulses can travel through it.

Utility

Interstellar travel was a pipedream for terrans prior to the deveopment of this technology, and now it's a reality. The Chandrasekhar-Chirikov Hyperspace Gate technology is fully scalable for stellar and interstellar use. As a method of rapid transit, it's key to navigating the known universe. Moving resources, trade, and commercial activities were the first uses, and followed rapidly by their benefits for aid delivery during disasters. Travel in system is roughly a 1:1 for time, with jumps taking mere minutes of real time and arriving, from the perspective of people in real space, moments after leaving their departure point. Interstellar travel takes longer, with roughly a day passing in real space for each week spent in transit through hyperspace. The longest jump was to a resort system, taking 5 real days for 5 weeks of transit. To avoid age discrepencies, cryostasis is the norm for crews, with human and zoanid crew members going into stasis while synthroids and ship AI continue routine operations. Regulations state that all crews must be in stasis by the half way point of their real space transit time, and cannot be awoken save for emergencies until half real space transit time remains. So a crew on a 1/7 jump would have 12hrs to get into stasis, and 12hrs to shake out before arrival; meanwhiel the ship will spend 7 days in hyperspace.

Manufacturing

The only place with the facilities to manufacture Chandrasekhar-Chirikov Hyperspace Gate technology in full were the Martian Orbital Yards, and those were destroyed towards the end of the Great Stellar War. Currently, all known systems are capable of making spare parts, with the Tanit and Sol systems developing full manufacturing capability again.

Social Impact

Reducing travel time in system revolutionized colonization in the Sol System. Key goods, parts, and people could be in place in moments compared to weeks. And moving into the realm of interstellar possibility was impossible without it. It opened innumerable doors and opportunities, as well as aiding in relieving population pressures in the Sol System.
Inventor(s)
The joint inventors of the theory and first working models were Nandini Chandrasekhar and Rodion Chirikov, working in a colaborative effort combining their expertise in partical, quantum, and theoretical physics. They were supported by literally dozens of scientists, engineers, technicians, and even philosphers in their work, and lived to see the first interstellar missions succeed and the first interstellar colonies established. The pair are regarded as science heroes by the public, and the day of their first successful test, March 4th of the Standard Earth Western Calendar, is a holiday and time to celebrate scientific endeavour.
Access & Availability
Once established with the Hyperspace Transit Authority, access was regulated and controlled to maintian safety and to prevent the overcrowding of new colonies. Users were categorized as military, relief, commercial, immigration, and recreation; with differing levels of access for each level. The only non-UNS built gate was the one used by the UTF in their attempt to take everything down with them at the end of the Great Stellar War. The actual technology behind it and the software to run it all are, or rather were, tightly guarded secrets with extremely limited access. When using the gates, the entire process is controlled and access to the technical and control areas is strictly limited. Gate security forces are largely considered the best for a reason.
Complexity
Chandrasekhar-Chirikov Hyperspace Gate technology is extremely complex and power hungry. the smaller in system transit gates require two Class III Fusion Reactors to operate, and the interstellar travel level ones use six Class VIII Fusion Reactors in a Akyeampong Array. The rest is a complex of photonic and theoretical partical emitters set up in a massive circle shape. The controls are almost cartoonishly simple in comparison. Repurposed military detection and scanning systems, top end communication gear, and a crew of approximately 120 including the security forces.
Discovery
Scientists based in the Republic of Siberia and Federation of South Bharat discovered a method of penetrating into the dimension and then exiting it. The UNS Science & Exploration Bureau swiftly moved them, their families, a mob od supporting researchers, and a skilled labour force to a secure research location on Io. With a funcitonally unrestricted budget, they were able to take the technology from lab to real world testing in four years. On the sixth anniversary, they had managed to achieve 1:1 travel time in system, allowing vessels using gates to travel from one point to another nearly instantaneously. Chirikov's quantum entanglement developments allowed the system to be deployed on an interstellar scale by locking gates together and creating a predictable travel time between systems. However, the initial operations to establish a gate after a "piercing jump" had to be down by synthroid crewed and AI automatic vessels as time wouldn't "lock" until entanglement could be established.
