Vindicator Onthar Frume

Vindicator Onthar Frume was the head of the Order of the Gauntlet's Elturgard chapter, stationed in Elturel. He was a instrumental figure during the Great Dragon War and the early days of the Damnation of Elturel. He died during the Siege of Helm's Shield Hall.

History

Onthar Frume was born in 1463 to a family with a long history tied to the Order of the Gauntlet, leading to Frume joining the Order in 1480. There, he met Akhros, a fellow recruit, and the two became fast friends. However, as time wore on, the friendship between the two grew strained. Akhros became increasingly upset with Frume's laziness, drunken escapades, and perceived lack of virtue. Meanwhile, Frume began to see Akhros as stuck up, self righteous, and judgemental. The two eventually had a massive falling out and, when Frume was appointed the Vindicator of Elturgard, Akhros quit the Order.
As Vindicator of Elturel, Frume was most often found at the tavern a Pair of Black Antlers, where he was known for being a fun but raucous drinker.
In 1491, Frume was approached in Elturel by the Breadwinners and Ser Vich, a member of the Harpers, seeking his aid in rallying the Lords' Alliance against the cult of the Dragon. Frume was convinced, and traveled to Waterdeep to raise the banners while the Breadwinners did the same in Baldur's Gate.
As the first Vindicator of the Order of the Gauntlet to recognize the threat posed by the cult, Onthar was given the honor of attending sessions of the Council of Waterdeep alongside Righteous Hand Hagnak Stonekeep. Frume also met Akhros again during this time, as the latter had joined the Breadwinners, revealing the disdain that the former friends felt had not faded.
Alongside most of the rest of the order, Frume fought in both the Battle of Hardbuckler and the Battle at the Well of Dragons.
Following the Great Dragon War, Frume returned to his post in Elturel. He was in the city, at a Pair of Black Antlers when the city was teleported into Avernus in 1497. In the chaos that followed, Frume led his surviving members of the Order of the Gauntlet to Helm's Shieldhall to defend themselves, linking up with a group of surviving Hellriders led by Alcor and Kaiden Miursa.
Frume and the others used the Shieldhall as a staging ground to rescue civilians, until the city's Hell Knights, Hellriders transformed into devils, laid siege to the structure. Onthar personally led the defense of the Shieldhall, fighting the Hellknights' leader, Jander Sunstar, outside of the bunker protecting the civilains. During the fighting, Frume was knocked unconscious and, being mistaken for dead, was killed by a stray spell fired by the Lost Star Detectives, who arrived just in time to end the siege.
