Lords' Alliance
The Lords' Alliance, also known as the Council of Lords, was a partnership of merchant cities founded in 1325 DR. Its members were from Northwest Faerun, including Waterdeep, Silverymoon, Baldur's Gate, and Neverwinter, as well as other free cities and towns in the region, which made up the bulk of the organization.
Structure
The Lords' Alliance had no formal leader, though the head of Waterdeep was often treated as the de facto leader. The various members of the alliance could be called together in times of crisis to band together against a common threat.
In the late 15th century, the members of the Lords' Alliance included:
- Waterdeep
- Neverwinter
- Baldur's Gate
- Daggerford
- Longsaddle
- Amphail
- Yartar
- Silverymoon
- Mithral Hall
- Mirabar
History
The Lords' Alliance was formed in 1325 as a reaction to the growing influence of both Amn and the Zhentarim. It has traditionally been used a way to mediate problems between member city-states to prevent disagreements from breaking out into open war.
Following the Raid on Tumbleton in late 1491, the various members of the Lords' Alliance were rallied together by the Harpers, the Order of the Gauntlet, and the Breadwinners to combat the Cult of the Dragon during the Great Dragon War. By 1492, the members of the Lords' Alliance gathered together on the Council of Waterdeep, which was formed to represent all the various allies in the effort to stop the Cult of the Dragon. Laeral Silverhand, Open Lord of Waterdeep was chosen as the leader of the council.
The various armies of the Lords' Alliance fought in both the Battle of Hardbuckler and the Battle at the Well of Dragons, thoroughly defeating the Cult of the Dragon and preventing Tiamat's summoning to the Prime Material Plane.
Military
The Lords' Alliance had no formal military, though each member possessed their own military force. In times of crisis, the various members could join their military forces together, though this often caused old tensions to rise up as various members and lords would refuse to make themselves subservient to others.
