Nodurog, The Earth's Madness

Nodurog is the god of earth and the original builder who began the process of creating the world by molding the ground to serve as the foundation for everything else. In the past Nodurog represented strength and stability, now he is the embodiment of rage. Anguished over the destruction the world went through during the Great Sundering, Nodurog now believes that mortals are unworthy of the life that has been given to them, and works to destroy them all so he may start anew. Nodurog is depicted as a bestial reptilian humanoid made of stone, with burning magma pouring through cracks in his skin. He wields a large two handed hammer as his favored weapon. Nodurog's role in providing the foundation for the world makes him the strongest of the Middle Deities.   Most of his followers are the insane Xulgath who he has shared his madness and rage with. They construct elaborate temple cities in the Sunken Lands, and wage an endless war to exterminate all other life. From time to time cults dedicated to the extermination of life will form above the surface, but these usually do not last long as their goals usually create conflict quite quickly. On rare occasions Nodurog will bless a follower with incredibly power, but also overwhelming rage. These champions rage out and destroy what they can until they are either slain or burn out from the influx of divine might. Nodurog's most powerful servants are the demons he creates in his divine realm, Hatred's Core. Some people still offer prayers to the old Nodurog, in hopes that his rage will one day end.   Nodurog works in cycles. Every so often he will awake and go on a rampage. During these rampages he fills his followers with power and commands his armies to attack the surface in mass. These rampages result in great losses of life on both sides of the conflict, and involves Nodurog expending a great deal of energy. When he eventually runs out, he returns to sleep. His followers temporarily retreat to replenish their numbers and hold ritual sacrifices to slowly refill their gods energy. These rampages only happen once every thousand or so years, but they can last for decades at a time, and the rebuilding process can take centuries.

Tenets of Faith

The old tenets of Nodurog's faith were to provide a safe and stable home to those around you. Work to protect others, respect the earth beneath you, and those who came before you. He taught it was each person's duty to lay the proper foundation for the next generation.   This is also why the Great Sundering enraged Nodurog so much. He saw it as the ultimate violation of his tenets, the complete destruction of all that had come before, completely ruining the foundation of the world for those in the future.
