The Handyman
Background:
Walter O'Shea was born in Hamilton, Ontario at the end of the second world war, into a family of craftsmen. His father was a skilled carpenter, and from an early age, Walter learned the value of working with his hands. Fascinated by both traditional craftsmanship and emerging technologies, Walt excelled in school and later pursued an engineering degree at the University of Toronto.
Upon graduation, Walter joined Wright Tech International’s Canadian branch, where he quickly proved his worth as a talented engineer and innovator. His passion for tools and gadgets led him to work on several of the company’s experimental projects, including advanced versions of the iconic "Wright Handy Man's Utility Belt"—a piece of equipment originally developed during World War II that was adapted for heroes and adventurers alike.
Inspired by the spirit of innovation that ran through Wright Tech and recognizing the growing need for heroes in a rapidly modernizing world, Walter decided to use his engineering skills and Wright Tech's groundbreaking equipment to make a difference as a costumed superhero. Adopting the persona of "The Handyman," he used his expertise and exclusive Wright Tech gear to fight crime, save lives, and promote the values of innovation and community service that Wright Tech embodied. He served as a tech sauvy superhero throughout the sixties and into the early eighties before retiring with honours as a legend of the Silver Age of Canadian Superheroes.
Personality:
Walt O'Shea is resourceful, determined, and has an unshakable work ethic. He is someone who thrives on challenges and believes that with the right tools and enough ingenuity, any problem can be solved. Known for his calm demeanor and analytical mind, he approaches both engineering problems and crime-fighting situations with logic and patience. Walt embodies the core values of Wright Tech—integrity, innovation, and community service. He sees his role as The Handy Man not just as an opportunity to fight crime but as a way to inspire others to use their skills to make the world a better place. He is known for his dry sense of humor, often making puns and quips related to tools and engineering during his exploits. Despite his technical prowess, he is humble and believes in the power of teamwork, often collaborating with local authorities and other heroes.
Walt is also deeply loyal to Wright Tech, and he takes great pride in using their equipment exclusively. He views his work with Wright Tech not just as a job but as a way to continue the legacy of the Wright family, which he greatly admires for their commitment to quality, social responsibility, and making a positive impact on the world.
