Mister Midnight
Jean-Claude Bellerose (a.k.a. Mister Midnight)
Background
Jean-Claude Bellerose, known as Monsieur Minuit, was once one of Montreal's foremost vigilantes. Born and raised in Montreal, Jean's passion for justice and his desire to root out corruption led him to study criminology alongside Laura Locke, the woman who would become his partner both in crime-fighting and in life. Together, they formed a vigilante duo—the Midnight's—with Jean as Monsieur Minuit and Laura as Madame Minuit.
Jean had always been the brawler of the team, specializing in combat and direct action while Laura handled investigation and intelligence. The pair complemented each other and sought to bring justice to a city mired in crime and corruption. However, over time, Jean's priorities shifted. Unknown to Laura, he began taking bribes from the Italian Mafia, compromising his ideals and tainting his once-heroic efforts.
Jean's corruption was ultimately exposed by Laura and the Vulpes, another vigilante from Toronto. Betrayed and disillusioned, Laura orchestrated his downfall without revealing her own involvement. Jean was subsequently arrested for his activities as a vigilante and his collusion with organized crime. In prison, Jean swore revenge on the Vulpes, vowing to make her pay should he ever escape.
Personality Jean-Claude Bellerose is a complex individual, torn between his original ideals and his descent into corruption. Initially motivated by a genuine desire to protect his city and root out crime, Jean's moral compass slowly eroded over time. He became increasingly possessive of his role as Montreal's protector, seeing the city as "his" and becoming resentful of anyone who challenged his authority or sought to share his spotlight.
Jean's relationship with Laura began with love and passion, but as his secret dealings with the Mafia deepened, he became manipulative and dismissive of her contributions. His ego led him to see himself as the true hero of Montreal, relegating Laura to a mere sidekick. He became controlling and secretive, hiding his activities and justifying his actions as necessary for their survival. After his exposure and arrest, Jean's personality took a darker turn. Feeling betrayed and humiliated, he developed a deep hatred for the Vulpes. His desire for revenge is now his primary motivation, and he dreams of escaping prison to enact vengeance on those who he believes wronged him.
Jean is cunning, prideful, and unwilling to accept responsibility for his downfall, instead blaming others for his failures. His once-noble quest for justice has become a twisted pursuit of power and revenge.
