Bertha the Bomber

Background
Bertha Lee was introduced to explosives and blasting techniques early in life by her father, a seasoned quarry worker. Growing up surrounded by the constant rumble of detonations and the smell of cordite, she became fascinated by the art and science of controlled destruction. Her childhood experiments with firecrackers evolved into more complex devices as she studied chemistry and explosives engineering.
Bertha’s natural talent and obsession with explosives led her to a promising career with the RCMP’s bomb disposal unit, where her skills in dismantling bombs were unmatched. Her superiors were considering her for a position with Canada’s elite Joint Task Force 2. However, her career took a dark turn when she became entangled with a corrupt Internal Affairs officer who tried to make her the fall guy in an investigation. Faced with threats against her family and the ruin of her reputation, Bertha set an explosive trap in the officer's car, eliminating him in what appeared to be a mob-style hit.
Bertha’s revenge was short-lived. Her crime came to the attention of Judge-Mental, a notorious supervillain obsessed with meting out "justice." Captured and tortured, Bertha faced execution at his hands until a daring rescue freed her. However, her ordeal left her psychologically scarred, disillusioned with the legal system she once believed in. Branded a fugitive and with evidence of her crime publicly revealed, she fled, embracing her skills as Ottawa’s feared “mad bomber.”
After a series of anarchic attacks, she was approached by Cipher Noir, an old colleague turned criminal mastermind. Cipher Noir saw Bertha’s potential and invited her to join the Sinister Spectacle’s team of mercenaries, where her skills with explosives would be put to lucrative use.
Personality Bertha the Bomber is charismatic and fearless, with a dark sense of humor and a taste for theatrics. Her love of explosives borders on the artistic, treating each bombing as a performance. She’s pragmatic yet relishes the chaos she creates, often taunting authorities and superheroes with cryptic messages before her detonations. Though she presents herself as carefree, her past trauma has left her deeply distrustful of authority and disillusioned with justice.
Since joining the Sinister Spectacle’s team, she has found a peculiar camaraderie with Cipher Noir and The Sinister Spectacle, viewing them as the only people who understand her. Bertha is also fiercely loyal to those she trusts, but once betrayed, her vengeance is both brutal and meticulous.
