"The officer to Drelis' right side bore the markings of a Commander with a gold symbol at the top of his pauldron that marked him as the ship's first officer. He was slightly shorter than David, but with a medium build that showed power and restraint. The commander was muscular enough to be intimidating, though heavy enough that a good runner could leave him behind. He still clung to a measure of youthful vitality, and appeared to be in his late thirties or early forties. His face bore a similar polite discipline to Drelis, offering a faded green eyed stare that could cut right through a man but rarely ever did."
