Sanctuary of Justice

The Sanctuaries of Justice are the pre-eminent courts of law in Raskvaeric. The main one is located in the capital of Latharin, and stands in the shadow of the Mother Temple.

History

There has been a court on the site of the Sanctuary of Justice in Latharin since before the Great Confiscation. The old Court of Harmony, as it was called, was dedicated to a so-called deity named Aksinya. Aksinya was believed to be the goddess of Truth and Justice, but was one of the creatures that was brutally murdered within the Mother Temple as a result of the Raven's treachery.   After the events of the Hubraic Wars, as Raskvaeric began to try and rebuild their society, the decision was made to demolish the old courts and build another on its site. This new building was dedicated to one of the first Saint recognised by the Holy Chorus of Saints, Saint Gervasii.

Layout

The Sanctuary of Justice consists of four main courts (reserved for criminal trials), three minor courts (reserved for civil or merchantile trials) and a number of other small offices and chambers where meetings and pre-trial organization can take place. The main courtrooms are linked by a number of cloisters filled with beautiful gardens, where visitors are encouraged to relax or gather their thoughts for their upcoming testimony or meeting.   One of the more famous rooms within the Sanctuary is the Hall of Lesser Mercies. This is where petitions are brought before the most eminent judges in Latharin and, on occassion, the Karrovich himself. These can be simple merchantile matters or requests for investigations into cases that the authorities have either failed to investigate or where the courts have made unsatisfactory rulings.
