Guiding Stars

Of all the Saeric peoples, the Lormontai have been the most resistent to embrace the Holy Chorus of Saints as their gods. Swords and spears can be plunged into the hearts of dragons and water nymphs, revealing them to be nothing more than mortal creatures of flesh and blood. Unfortunately, there does not exist a single bowmen who could fire an arrow so far that it could pierce the heart of the stars.

Constellations and the Gods

The traditional religion of Lormont recognises a dual monarchy of gods: the Rhoi and the Rheia. These gods have never stepped onto the mortal plane, and are believed to dwell somewhere above the canopy of the sky. Their presence is made known to mankind by the Constellations they have burned into the night's sky.   The Lormontai royal family, the House of Créquy (pron. CREH-key), are considered to

The Constellations

The Constellation shapes are divided into Spring and Summer, followed by Autumn and Winter. The Lormontai believe that the Rhoi rules over Spring and Summer, and so the Constellations seen in the night skies during this time reflect His nature. Autumn and Winter, ruled over by the Rheia, are expressions of the goddess.

Rites of Passage

As the Guiding Stars are seen to represent the nature of the divine, worship and important rites of passage are typically held at night. It is considered lucky for weddings to be held under a new moon, but unlucky to be held during a waning moon.   Since the Great Confiscation, the Lormontai have largely stopped buring their dead during full moons, because they fear that the light of the moon will make it easier for the Raven's Escorts to find and capture the Souls of their loved ones.

I love the opening quote, especially the last line. It's so good! I don't think we've talked much about this culture before, but I love them. :D
