wish orbs Item in The Sora | World Anvil

wish orbs

The wish orbs are a set of six large, smooth gems which, individually, are unimpressive but can be brought together to grant any single wish. They appear to be fairly nondescript polished gemstones, each about the size and shape of a cantaloupe. There are six orbs in total, each resembling a separate precious stone and representing a different primordial power. The fire orb is a ruby, the water orb is a sapphire, the earth orb is an emerald, the air orb is an amethyst, the light orb is a diamond, and the dark orb is an onyx. The only property that sets them apart from other gemstones is their size, smoothness, and hardness. They appear to be perfectly spherical with no surface flaws and attempts to cut them or chip off pieces fails, usually breaking the tool used in the process.   However, when the orbs are brought together, they begin exhibiting more intense properties. Opposite orbs (fire and water, earth and air, and light and dark) repel each other, slowly moving away from one another when brought close together. Allied orbs (fire and light, air and water, and earth and dark) conversely attract each other, slowly moving toward one another when brought in close vicinity to one another. When the orbs are all brought together, they begin to glow and release elemental energy. When arranged in equilibrium in a hexagon, the true magic of the orbs is unleashed. The proper order for equilibrium is fire, earth, dark, water, air, light.   When properly arranged, the orbs rise into the air and release a swirl of elemental power into the center of the hexagon. The swirling energy coalesces into a creature which appears as an androgynous member of the same race as the person looking at it. When the creature speaks, any listener hears its words in their native tongue. It tells them that it has been summoned and can grant the person who summoned it one wish. This wish can be nearly anything, though it cannot alter the fundamental laws of reality, kill or revive more than a thousand people at once, move more than a billion tons of any single material, gather more than one ton of material from disparate locations, or destroy any god or other similarly powerful creature.   Upon stating a wish, the creature declares "So it shall be" then vanishes, along with the orbs, which are then scattered throughout the Sora. The gems can only be used once a year.
