Kalleia

The domain of the Kalleian pantheon, this country was once a series of city-states locked in battle until joining forces. Kalleia is known for literature, politics, philosophy, mathematics, and other fields of academia.

Structure

Every five years, a vote is held in numerous cities in Kalleia, in which the citizens of Kalleia vote on their 5 council members whom they think should be a member of the oligarchic council. The 20 council members with the most votes now have a seat in the oligarchy. This oligarchy is now the decision-maker and law-maker of the country. Kalleia is an complete oligarchy outside of the fact that they are democratically elected every 5 years. One can run for as many terms as they are elected. The total amount or percentage of votes per person are never released to the public nor to the oligarchy to avoid narcissism and corruption.

History

After the Great Partition, numerous peoples and areas with similar culture and ethnic background joined together to create Kalleia in year 0, but this was short-lived. In 1 AP, Kalleia split into dozens of city-states, but two prominent city-states would begin to rise in power and influence. Athens and Sparta started to annex city-states as extensions of their own, although keeping the city-states' individuality. Eventually, the Peloponnesian War broke out between the two in 517 AP, and it lasted until 544 AP. During the Magician's silencing of the gods, the war was cut short by invasions from Malrith, a ruthless country looking to exploit and conquer the newly godless nations. Athens and Sparta banded together to drive Malrith out of the country, succeeding in just 6 months, ending the war in 545 AP. After a triumphant victory, Athens and Sparta both recognized their strength together, and decided to establish the United Nation of Kalleia in 545 AP.

Demography and Population

Kalleia has a population of around 12.5 million people, the vast majority being humans.

Military

After the unity of the two opposing city-states (Athens and Sparta), Kalleia's military is very strong. Sparta was known for its immensley strong army of highly trained men, deadly in land-based military combat. Athens, representing the goddess of military strategy, employed their strategic thought into their military, as well as their advanced navy. Both of these strengths combined in the formation of the U.N.K., complimenting each other in creating a strong, well-rounded military.

Education

A child's education is based on where they were born. If one was born in a formerly Spartan territory, they would most likely be trained in military combat from a young age. If one was born in a formerly Athenian territory, they would most likely be taught in a very academic field of study. Regardless, a parent can choose either of these types of schools, or even enroll their child in a "mixed school," a school that teaches the ways of both combat and academics.

Mythology & Lore

The mythology recognized, taught, and worshipped in Kalleia is exactly the same as Greek mythology.

Divine Origins

The Kalleian legends and pantheon were passed down through generations of oral, artistic, and literary tradition, as well as being embraced through the honoring of the objectively true gods.

Priesthood

Priests and priestesses need little special training, but rather are usually born a member of a respected priestly or political family. However, some priests and priestesses have earned their priesthood through their demonstration of divine powers (clerics & paladins). All priests become clerics, but for some the cleric part comes before priesthood.
Founding Date
The current united state of Kalleia became one in 545 AP, but the divided city states that made up the territory prior to the unity existed since a second split after the Great Partition.
