Personal history

Early Life

Anne Bonny was the child of an affair, between lawyer William Bonny and his servant Mary Brennan. To avoid his wife knowing of the illegitimate child, William began to dress Anne as a boy and pretend that she was a lawyer's clerk in training. This deception did not keep up, as William's wife discovered Anne's true identity and took him off of her large inheritance allowance. William left his wife and traveled to an Elarian province of the Antilles, taking Anne's mother with him. The family would struggle to establish themselves in this new territory, and Anne's mother would eventually die when Anne was just 12. After his wife's death, however, William was able to acquire a solid amount of wealth in the nautical merchant business, moving his way up until he would eventually owned a group of trading vessels. Over the next five years or so, William would become a member of the wealthy Elarian millionaires that ruthlessly dominated the economy in the Antilles.

Turn to Piracy

Anne Bonny showed a predilection towards violence and bravery in her youth, supposedly having stabbed a bullying schoolmate of hers when she was just 13. At the age of 18, she married a minor-league pirate by the name of James Cormac, who was secretly hoping to inherit William's wealth upon his eventual death. William Bonny uncovered this plot, and disowned Bonny as punishment for marrying such a money-hungry villain (when, in reality, that's exactly what William was). William kicked Anne out of the house, and Anne would burn down his biggest sharecropping plantation at the time, also freeing the indebted tenants that were formerly slaves. Anne and James Cormac then moved to a pirate haven of a city, where James took up the position of pirate informant for the governor.   It was in a local tavern where Anne Bonny met the likes of "Calico Jack" Rackham, a very famous pirate in the area. The two fell so much in love that they fled town together, with Anne divorcing James and reusing her maiden name. Anne joined Rackham's crew, where she also met Mary Read, known by her male disguise "Mark Read" at the time. The two took very well to each other, with Mary Read eventually professing her love for Bonny, along with her true identity. While how this meeting went is unknown, Jack Rackham grew very jealous of their relationship. Mary Read revealed her true nature to Rackham in order to stave off his jealousy. The trifecta was solidified, and Anne Bonny, Calico Jack, and Mark Read would sail the Antillean seas as its most infamous pirate trio.

End of an Era

In late 574, a pirate hunter took Rackham's crew by surprise while they were off drinking rum and partying in the tropical Antilles. Rackham's crew retreated into the hold, leaving only Bonny and Read to stave off the boarding party. The hunter's crew eventually overpowered the women, while Rackham surrendered and requested mercy, even drunk himself. The entire crew was taken into a coastal Elarian city to be arrested and tried for their piracy. All members of the crew were sentenced to hang, including Bonny and Read. However, the women were able to subvert their execution by pleading the belly, or claiming they were pregnant to delay the execution until they gave birth (operating within an Elarian legal technicality). These claims turned out to be nothing more than a lie, and the two women were able to escape prison, leaving their former partner in his prison cell to rot.

The Queen Anne's Revenge

As of 569 AP, Anne Bonny and Mary Read were free to roam the Antilles once again. Mary reassumed her male alias to regain that leg up in the pirate world, while Bonny dropped the disguise altogether. At some point after this, the two became romantically involved with one another, although there are many pirates that believe their relationship started long before they were even imprisoned (though they wouldn't dare utter this around either of them). The couple joined Blackbeard's crew in 573, which would be their first time as part of a crew since their imprisonment. The two of them quickly earned Blackbeard's respect as among the bravest and strongest crewmates of the Queen Anne's Revenge, eventually being promoted to dual quartermasters. The couple has run with Blackbeard's crew ever since, with Read dropping the male alias and earning quite the name for herself.
