Umin - Goddess of the Seas

One of The Four

Gameplay: Followers of The Old Gods have the most diverse set of beliefs and gods on the Sword Coast. As such all religious classes (clerics, paladins, and druids) are open to them. Listed below, in order of importance, are the most important deities in the pantheon, but there are too many to list. You may choose one of them as your character’s deity, or you may design your character’s deity and religion. If you wish to play as a follower of The Old Gods, work with your DM to design your character’s beliefs and the nature of the religion and the god(s) she serves.   A Note to Players: There is a lot of room for players develop their characters' religious beliefs and to expand on the brief summaries of each deity presented below. Players are invited to help expand or amend what is written below.

Beliefs

Umin is one of The Four; four sibling deities of nature, Moeri of the wilderness, Umin of the sea, Sorac of the sky, and Yaman of the mountains.

Places of worship

Temples to Umin are abundant in coastal areas. This includes fishing villages and large seaports. She is also often incorporated as the supreme kami of the seas in The Way of The Spirits. Temples to Umin are built of wood or stone along coasts and many sea vessels have altars built to her. Her temples act as hostels, providing room and board to sailors and seamen who are far from home.

Characterization

The Four are depicted as siblings, two brothers and two sisters. Although they are siblings, most people depict them as different races. While most see them as siblings, a few see them as different aspects of the same god. Umin is depicted as a human or elven female or a mermaid with a blue eyes, golden hair, and a mercurial temperament.

Worshippers

Members of all the races residing on the coasts pray to Umin, particularly fishermen, sailors, pirates, and their families. She is often depicted on the bow of sailing vessels and is the patron goddess of many sea elves.
