Trinity of Creation & Destruction
All that ends will begin again. All that was will be.
Gameplay:
Followers of The Old Gods have the most diverse set of beliefs and gods on the Sword Coast. As such all religious classes (clerics, paladins, and druids) are open to them. Listed below, in order of importance, are the most important deities in the pantheon, but there are too many to list. You may choose one of them as your character’s deity, or you may design your character’s deity and religion. If you wish to play as a follower of The Old Gods, work with your DM to design your character’s beliefs and the nature of the religion and the god(s) she serves.
A Note to Players:
There is a lot of room for players develop their characters' religious beliefs and to expand on the brief summaries of each deity presented below. Players are invited to help expand or amend what is written below.
The Trinity:
Bralil
At every turn of the cosmic wheel; every sun-up, every season-fall, every new year, every new epoch, Bralil dances the new creation into existence. She is the goddess of beginnings, of inspiration, and of new life.Vissal
Vissal continues Bralil’s dance, changing steps and rhythms in ways no one can predict. She rules the ever changing nature of existence. She takes the known and makes it unknown. She takes the new and makes it old. She takes the old and makes it new again. She is the goddess of the every present change in life. She fosters growth and innovation.Shi
Shi’s dance is one wholely opposite that of the other two. She is at the end of the cosmic wheel; every sun-down, every season-end, every years-end, every fall of an epoch, Shi dances old creations into nothingness. She is the goddess of endings, of closings, and of death. She clears the world so that Bralil might renew it again.Places of Worship:
Among The Followers of The Old Ways, the temples to The Trinity, are some of the most ancient and grandest on The Sword Coast. New seasons are often celebrated by holy days and festivals dedicated to all or one of the goddesses. Details vary from culture to culture and race to race.Characterization:
The Trinity of Creation & Destruction are either viewed as three aspects of the same unnamed god, or as three separate gods who work in concert. Some depict them as siblings. Bralil is depicted as a young woman of indeterminate race with a blur of arms, legs, and heads to represent her unending dance. Vissal is depicted as a multifaced god/goddess of either sex. It is considered taboo to depict him/her the same way twice, as she always changes form. Shi is depicted either as a fierce demon faced creature with a necklace of skulls or as a young human woman kindly leading the dead into the next life.Worshippers:
The Trinity are worshipped throughout The Sword Coast by all races. At times cults or sects dedicated to the worship of one of the individual gods of The Trinity will arise. Of these, “death cults” devoted to Shi alone are regarded with fear and suspicion.Bralil - Goddess of Creation & New Life
Vissal - God-Goddess of Change & Luck
Shi - Goddess of Destruction & Death
