The Twisting Forest

The Twisting Forest has been in existence for as long as The Shifting Isles have been populated by people. For some it's a nefarious place where people get lost in and never return. For others its a refuge that protects them from outside forces that seek to hurt, maim or worse. In truth, it is neither and both. The Twisting Forest holds many superstitions for people have found themselves lost for hours in its maze-like design, or disappear in it, never to return. No cartographer has been able to map the inside of the forest, so it remains an unknown entity left empty on maps.       "Don't go into the Twisting Forest. At best, you'll get lost and never return. At worst you'll be stolen by a Changeling and taken to the Fae realm!" - A worried mother to her child   "Respect the forest and the forest will respect you." - Aine, mother of Siofra Heffernan.

Geography

The geography of the area is a vast forest that covers a a large distance. The trees are spaced close together, tall and seem to block out the sun during most of the day.

Ecosystem

Despite its storied legends and origins, there is little unordinary about the ecosystem of the forest. Fae creatures interact with average woodland animals and it is largely peaceful.

Localized Phenomena

The Twisting Forest has a large amount of ambient magic and has almost developed a sentience to it. It is very protective of Sanctuary Village and the people who live in, and thus is determined to make it hard for outsiders to travel in the forest. Those born to Sanctuary Village occasionally get sidetracked by the Twisting Forest's antics, but it is never malicious for them.

Natural Resources

With respect and care, the people of Sanctuary Village use the resources of the Twisting Forest very carefully. They do not chop more wood than they need, no hunt or fish more than is needed. Thus the ecosystem is kept in sync, and the nature remains abundant.
