Halting the Heist Report
General Summary
Sonyin Cove Report
Re: Halting the Heist of the Archives by the Sinner's Syndicate.
These adventurer's face a daunting task ahead of them with the World Stone in their possession. I sought to assist them with their preparation, and thus made a deal to exchange task for goods. I had another task in mind, initially, but when I heard reports of the ARchives being ransacked by the Sinner's Syndicate, I knew it was the task meant for them. Surely, I thought, they would be able to handle such as a task after all they had faced thus far.
I was incorrect.
I was incorrect, and now we may all be doomed.
They adventurer's took so long in the Archives that I went to find them, and they all had a crazed appearance to them. I did not, at the time, know what they had seen, but it put me ill at ease. I wished to take pity upon them, even after hearing that they failed to stop The Ranni, but one of them placed his hands upon my person and attempted to intimidate me. I had the guards arrest him.
The others told me of what occured in the Archives. They spoke of the first floor, and how it was filled with bandits and the like. Rowan informed me, under his breath, of how the one I threw in jail, Jin-e, set fire to my precious library, and how they had to rest upon reaching the second floor for fear of death. We believe that the Sinners escaped during this rest.
Oh! Alas! My precious letters from better times between Vision and I. Those too, were burned by the madman I had thrown in jail. I wish to keep him there until the monster turns to naught but bone.
It is the basement of the Archives that drove the adventurers to a level of madness, it would seem. Therein they came across the creatures summoned by The Ranni's dark magic. Disembodied hands and creatures of shadow attacked the adventurers from every direction, falling upon them even from the ceiling. By the time they reached the pedestle upon which the scroll should have been, it was empty, and nobody else was found.
I am not sure what to do next about The Ranni. I do know that I am impeded in enacting full justice upon the elf who believes himselves above the law of civilization and morality. I cannot allow him to remain imprisoned, because of the curse which ties him to the other adventurers. I see that they have not wronged me (though they could have done more to prevent him from doing so.) I must release him so he can join them in saving the world.
I have spoken with my advisors and we have come to the conlusion that we will strip him of his belongings to sell to help recoup what we've lost in his blaze. Moreover, we shall spread word of his misdeeds throughout the land to ensure that, should he relapse into such misbehavior again, he shall be punished to the max extent. We have also decided that we will be unable to supply the adventurer's unless they assist us further in stopping The Ranni.
