10-11: Karooli Port
General Summary
PART 1 (Session 10)
After reclaiming Ember Island from ghosts and vengeful vampirates, the cursed heroes followed the cursed orb ever westward. With no other option, the Efreeti’s Fortune makes landfall at a harbor town in the Gulf of Garshan for refit and resupply.
While harbored at Karooli Port, however, disaster struck- as it often does, in the bloody desert peninsula of Garshan. An ancient blue dragon arrived at the port to lay waste to the walled settlement and all within. Jin-e the shadow, Aralia the thunderbolt, Metztli the mysterious, Gabriel the golden, Rowan the renowned, Commander Vash, and Captain Brimstone charged out of the city gates to meet this invincible foe. A batallion of the Karooli army was crushed and scattered in an instant as they crashed against this utter force of nature. The ancient dragon returned to the forbidden sands as swiftly as it came- like a bolt of lightning.
Cutting their losses, the remaining Karooli guard sealed the city gate, leaving all who survived the battle to perish in the desert heat. Receiving aid from the remaining soldiers, the party saw no path forward but to venture into the desert. For days the party rode east on camelback through the deadly wasteland, determined to solve the dragon problem one way or another.
The crew, dry and dusty, found themselves in Taran'GAr, the primary stronghold of the Thunder Rage Clan of orcs. The orcs were found to be surprisingly hospitable compared to the blood drinking orc savages of lore. In fact, through the power of diplomacy, the adventurers were invited to partake in a sacred orcish festival to celebrate the annual sacrifice to the dragon of Garshan.
The next several nights were a blur of merriment, feasting, and bruises. Thankfully what happens in Taran’Gar stays in Taran’Gar. I am too much a gentleman to record the details of the festival in my personal journal.
The Orcish festival came to a roaring conclusion and the tribe marched proudly into the desert with the dragon offering and the party in tow. The blue dragon was appeased by the orcs offering and the adventurers found a rare chance to parlay with the ancient beast.
The Dragon, Inidivar, explained his ongoing reign of terror is purposeful- a devious elvish broker known as The Barron, had managed to capture and imprison the dragon’s mate, Sunila. The party promised to right this wrong. Inidivar wasted no time making good on this promise and scooped the party up in his massive claws. Inidivar bolted straight for the Port to exact his vengeance once and for all. The battle to follow would be legendary.
PART 2 (Session 11)
The heroes had just reached Karooli Port when, through their shared bond, Inidivar was stricken with the unbearable pain of his mate, Sunila. Inidivar and the party came crashing down into the sands just outside the Port gates- just as a siege was being staged. The forsaken survivors had regrouped under the rebel soldier, Sir Tyler, and were preparing to assault the city guard who doomed them. Blessed with the blue dragon’s lightning, the party joined the siege.
Vash and Ember commanded the rebel army in a brutal clash outside the city gate. Both sides were evenly matched and the battle was deadlocked. Jin-e, ever resourceful, hatched a devious play. Under the shade of magic invisibility, the wily wood elf unleashed a toxic chemical “weapon” that brought the Karooli guard to their knees. The tide had been turned and the rebels charged the gate.
Little did they know, the walled port city had been encircled in a magic bubble, completely impervious to assault. The brave son of Brimstone knew just what to do. As if being pulled by destiny, (later, he informed us that he was guided by his mother’s spirit,) Ember led the crew to a waterfall southeast of the city walls. Upon inspection the gang tumbled through a secret entrance into an underground crystal cave system.
In the depths of the cave the party encountered the captured Sunila, whose dragon power was being drained by dark magic. Thankfully, the cave was connected to the secret lair of the Baron himself. The party kicked his door down and stabbed him to death as Sunila exploded through the floor to freedom.
With dragon lovers united and the Port rescued from the Barron’s bloody grasp, the cursed crusaders celebrated another glorious victory.
