Saben is a former auxiliary commander serving under the Sigil of Mane and before that a captain in Andar who fought in two campaigns against the Carryleans, giving him a wealth of knowledge in military affairs. For a time he thought war was all he would ever know, but he fled the Sigil and came to the New World after a particularly cruel campaign through the Hierlands. It was not a spiritual revelation but an existential need that drove him away, but he suffered even more away from war - feeling helpless as the struggles around him grew. He now serves in the Hampsterdam Army after being recruited by Ajax the Bear-barian
