The Warren

The Warren was one great big slum the size of a town, sitting at the top of a cliff in the Southern Border Mountains of Tílunur. Other names for it included the Dump and The Place of No Return, and for good reason. Anyone who went to Kelosi was probably just waiting to die. The town was a mix of casinos and gambling houses, inns, and lots of tall-but-wonky towers, perfect for throwing yourself off when you lost badly at gambling. And there was always the cliff, of course.   The Warren was a mix of every species imaginable, including the usual suspects; Men, Elves, Dwarves, and khud'zarak. But other species also came to the Warren, looking for anything from a place to gamble big to a place to simply lay down and die.   The Warren had sprung up long before Tywell I, and when he had conquered Tílunur, it sprang through the cracks of the newly forming borders, becoming something that was technically not Tílunuren. The Alovo of the nearest city had no interest in managing it, so it became self-governed, although governed was a loose word. Anyone with a pocketful of gold and a handy weapon could carve a path for themselves here, setting themselves up as the lord of the settlement, right until someone else came along and deposed them. Despite this cycle of death and oppression, people continued to come to the Warren, as it was said that most desires could be satisfied there for the right price.   Rusalye Würani came to the settlement in 2765 TA while on the run from the government, and stayed there for three years. In that time, he deposed several gang bosses that tried to set up in the Warren, and earned a hefty amount by pickpocketing those with heavy wallets. When the law finally caught up to him, he returned to civilisation, leaving behind a town of very apprehensive and uneasy citizens. On one hand, he had defeated several oppresive leaders, but on the other, the Ranger had been extremely unpredictable, and if you said hello to him, you would never know if he would reply cordially, or hurl a knife at you.
