Dream Wells

"It's... amazing... It's like a... well of magic."

-Landon the Explorer

Dream Wells are wellsprings of magic all over Irëduin and Kárydir. Although not actually literal wells, the term was coined in the early First Age by Landon the Explorer when he visited a Well. Being a mage, Landon was able to sense the energy around him.

As Landon and many other mages have experienced, Dream Wells are concentrated wellsprings of magic whose presence can be felt by those with the right training.

"What is this?"

"It's a Dream Well, the greatest wonder of the natural world."

"It's... indescribable."

-Tywell III and Ralthyr Wazavor

Dream Wells have never been fully documented, although the monks of the Order of the Rising Moon have made many journeys into the Well beneath their monastery, seeking to fully understand the natural phenomenon beneath their feet. However, they were mostly unsuccessful, although the Book of Quana'la details many effects experienced by the monks.

Almost every mage who ventures into a Dream Well is affected, and some non-mages as well. Everyone's experience is different, and the Book contains pages and pages of effects that some monks felt and others didn't.

The Well of Enlightenment

Perhaps the most famous of the Dream Wells, the Well of Enlightenment is the Dream Well located beneath the Monastery of the Rising Moon. It's effects have been excessively studied and recorded in the Book of Quana'la, but undoubtedly there is still much to be discovered.

The Cave of Stars

Another more well-known Well, the Cave of Stars is a more active Well. Over the years, it draws people in for trials, manifesting itself as an old man who presented the visitors with three trials; the Trials of Body, Mind, and Soul. Ralthyr and Mystor unwillingly took part in these trials during the B'omarrin Kashar's penultimate attack on the Castle. Interestingly, these trials took on an interesting dynamic; Ralthyr passed the Trials of Body and Mind while failing the Trial of Soul, while Mystor only passed the Trial of Soul. Later, Ralthyr returned to the Cave of Stars to try to heal his mental and psychological scars. This was only partially successful, restoring his magic but leaving behind the original trauma.

Ralthyr then travelled to the Well of Enlightenment, where he joined the Order of the Rising Moon and spent many long weeks meditating in the Well to try to continue the healing process.
