Tywell III

Tywell III was the third Tywell in the Third Age of Irëduin, the son of King Teranik II, younger brother of Princes Arnmor and Dylor, mägar and leader of the New Einheryari.

History

Tywell was born in 2748 TA. He grew up in the Castle, and was entered into the Castle swordschool when he was thirteen. Unfortunately, he never seemed to get the hang of swordfighting, and Master Kardemòrr, the teacher, felt that Tywell had no place in the swordschool. Nikko, who was a year older than Tywell, made it his duty to bully the prince, and made sure that most of the other students steered clear. However, Tywell made three friends among the warrior apprentices (Althain, Anamí, and Wëls), as well as a friend in the scribeschool (Dakko).

In 2764, Tywell discovered that he was an Aiwar with the help of his friends. Then, a short time later, Dylor was poisoned in an assassination attempt by Gu B'omarrin Kashar. Tywell embarked on a quest to discover the cure, along with Althain, Wëls, and Anamí, travelling first to the plains village of Asákad, where there had been an outbreak of a similar disease before. The alderman proved that the two diseases were different, and set them on their way to a nearby Wise Woman.

The Wise Woman knew the cure they were after, called the The Turalo Cure, and supplied them with a list of the ingredients. The four travellers headed to Mount Táturto and the Síldur Valley, which was north of the Wise Woman's house. There, they collected the first ingredient of the Cure, which was bark from the willoway tree. However, by the time they had made it out of the Síldur Valley, Althain had been wounded in a Domiji bandit attack, and Tywell was close to death after riding off alone.

The next two elements could only be found in Í Núvilvor, or the Cloud's Teeth, a floating archipelago of mountain-topped islands, that were found over the Lands Beyond. The four travellers fought their way through the B'omarrin Kashar territory in the Lövori Mountains, then crossed the Plains of The Lands Beyond. Below the Cloud's Teeth, Tywell wandered off alone, seeking a way to get to the mountains. He was abducted by a red dragon named Raudhon, who was curious as to what humans were doing in the Lands Beyond. The travellers enlisted Raudhon's help, and he showed them the Secret Way, which led up to Amaranthinos, the first of Í Núvilvor.

There, they met the Forest Tribe, who lived on the slopes of Amaranthinos. The Tribe fought against a group of the B'omarrin Kashar warriors, who had made their way to Í Núvilvor. Tywell climbed a cliff to try and acquire the next Cure part, which was Aethr flowers. After he was confronted by Kauran, a green dragon and leader of a dragon clan living on Amaranthinos, he watched as the Amaranthinos clan joined in the fight against the B'omarrin Kashar. However, the tide turned when the rebels brought the kûrukai, or dark dragons, into the fight.

Accidentally bonding with Raudhon, Tywell joined the fight on dragonback, using his bow and his sword against the attackers. Althain, Wëls, and Anamí also bonded with dragons (Eraumor, Audhonr, and Nauwyn respectively).

Eventually, the B'omarrin Kashar was defeated, and in the process, Tywell obtained two Cure ingredients; Aethr flowers and the claw of a Rath'shak. The dragons and dragon-bonded headed back to the plains, where they slew a pursuing Rath'shak and found the last ingredient; pelerga root. They also encountered a Ranger, who warned them of an impending attack on the Castle.

They arrived to see the Castle under siege, with the B'omarrin Kashar blockading all routes off the island. The dragonriders joined the fight for a short time before Lord Andros, who was standing in for the unconscious king, sent them on a recruiting mission to the south of Tílunur. They stopped first in Xankadar, where they encountered the mysterious Ralthyr Wazavor. The elf helped them defeat a local witch, then went with them to Érmor, where he was identified as a famous criminal. Tywell intervened, protecting Ralthyr with his royal influence. After the raising of the garrison, the travellers then headed to the mountain city of Avosti.

The group was ambushed, and a large number of the soldiers were killed. In Avosti, Tywell witnessed the repeated clashing between Ralthyr and Althain, who disapproved of the elf's independence and arrogance. The prince also assisted Ralthyr and Elrohan(Avosti's kvarir) in the capture of Lasovik, a B'omarrin Kashar spy.

After leaving Avosti, they headed to Gu Táturhó, or the Firefalls, on the advice of Ralthyr. After getting the soldiers settled a mile away from the waterfall, the dragonriders discovered a set of mysterious tracks. Before they could follow them, they were ambushed, and Ralthyr revealed his magic to save them, but at a great cost; courtesy of the torture he had undergone in Karazhim, under the weight of the powerful memories, he fell unconscious whenever he used magic. When he recovered, they followed the tracks to the falls themselves, where they encountered and killed a kûruk. Investigating its lair, they found and killed another. There Althain apologised to Ralthyr for his irresponsible behaviour before the group headed back to the camp, where Tywell split off and headed back to the Castle. The others went to the town of Galiwohr.

At the Castle, Tywell inspected the defenses, rightly decreeing that they wouldn't hold much longer. While he was there, he also had Kayl, Althain's sister, pursuing him, although he rejected her advances. Soon after, Ralthyr teleported back to the Castle, bringing with him Ayduin, a telekinetic from Galiwohr. Tywell approved Ayduin's induction into the little group, and Ralthyr left again.

A short time later, Ralthyr came back, seeking help. Cakovol, a key Southern city, was under attack by the B'omarrin Kashar. Tywell went back with Raudhon, and succeeded in staving off the invasion, with Ralthyr's help. The army left Cakovol, and Tywell and his bonded brother left the army close to Ïoras, home of the elven nation.

Back at the Castle, he listened to Kalkork, another warrior apprentice, who had suspicions about a spy hidden among the king's court.

Then Tywell was teleported to Ïoras, where Ralthyr presented him with Aluverí, an elven blade forged from talithil and the same colour as Raudhon's scales. Each of the dragonriders received such a sword, and then Tywell returned to the Castle.

Shortly after, the B'omarrin Kashar attacked, instigating the main battle. However, Ralthyr and a former mercenary from Makalla named Mystor had infiltrated the rebel camp, poisoning a large number of the soldiers. Tywell joined the fight on dragonback, but the battle started going against the Tílunuren forces. When all seemed lost, Ralthyr ended the battle in one huge burst of magic, regardless of the pain that it brought him.

Tywell visited the unconscious warlock while he was recovering, himself suffering from a torso wound. All of the group were wounded in one way or another, and Mystor had died. However, the Cure was administered to Dylor in time, and the prince awoke shortly before Ralthyr. Tywell attended the ceremony during which King Teranik publicly thanked Ralthyr. Ralthyr requested the until-then magically concealed tower of Ïdur Athándrë, which was near the Castle. Teranik granted the wish, and Tywell visited the mysterious warlock often.

Shortly after, Tywell left on a journey to the north of Tílunur after a conversation with Ralthyr. The prince's intention was to investigate the poverty and destitution of Tílunur, as he tried to help people where he could. Truthfully, the warlock had manipulated him into going on the journey, and had his own designs. Ralthyr had heard whispers of a rising menace in the north, and needed someone to go investigate while he monitored matters back in the Castle.

Tywell travelled along the Great West Road to the town of Tarost, where he encountered the mysterious stranger who called himself Zÿ. Zÿ accompanied the prince north to Asákad, where they pursued a band of slavers through the Síldur Valley and into the mountains of the Link. In Gardon, they accidentally met up with Ralthyr (although Ralthyr had deliberately travelled there to meet them). After joining up with the warlock, they chased the slavers to Ïdur Ananwë, where Ralthyr was shot and dealt a mortal wound.

Ralthyr woke up a few seconds later, leaving Tywell mystified as to how he had survived. The warlock refused to explain, instead driving them on to the city of Alamë, where they had another confrontation with the slavers before pursuing them out onto Í Gularë du Kvÿskva. Ralthyr used his elven sword Talthäyr to absorb the lightning that would have struck them otherwise, allowing them to catch up to the slavers, who were now all dead but one, Talok their leader. Before dying, Talok revealed that his group was only part of a much larger operation currently based in Irador.

Tywell led the others to Irador, where they spent a short time developing a plan before executing it. The plan was thus: when the ship arrived to transport the slaves to Avkazûr, Ralthyr would attack from the south, distracting the guards while Tywell and Zÿ would attack from the north, freeing the slaves that were being transported to the ship. However, things went wrong. Bored, Tywell entered Irador, where he discovered the slaves as the ship approached the city. However, he also discovered a kiáron imprisoned underground. Communicating with the others, they told him to ignore the kiáron and free the slaves, but he freed the kiáron, meaning that he couldn't get to the slaves before they were moved to the ship.

Exactly as Ralthyr and Zÿ had thought, the kiáron immediately attacked Irador. Ralthyr climbed a watchtower to get a good shooting position, while Tywell and Zÿ attempted to evacuate the city. In a turn of fate, Ralthyr brought down the kiáron with a one-in-a-million shot to the heart. However, much of the city was burnt and destroyed, and when the kiáron fell from the sky, it crushed many of the buildings that had still been intact. Most of the people in the city had been evacuated, and all three of the travellers survived, although Ralthyr fell from the top of the tower and fractured three ribs when the kiáron hit it.

After digging Ralthyr out of the rubble, Tywell discovered that a boat had already left, carrying slaves out to the main ship. They followed in another ship, catching up to the big ship and taking the crew captive. Before they could sail it back to the ruins of Irador, a storm sprung up, driving them down the coast. They took control of the ship, struggling to keep it under control and sail it south to the Castle.

When they passed Dol Niya, Ralthyr made a cryptic remark about how they would see the island again soon, but refused to elaborate. Hours later, they neared the Lake and Ïdur Athándrë. They managed to guide the ship in between the peninsulas and grounded it on a beach on the Castle Island. They were met by a group of soldiers, who helped the slaves and the travellers ashore before hurrying the ship's crew to the prison.

The next day, Tywell attended a formal trial for the slavers they had managed to capture. Then Ralthyr led Tywell, Zÿ, Anamí, Wëls, Althain, and Karya (a swordschool apprentice that Tywell had fallen in love with) to Dol Niya, where he revealed that they were all members of the Einheryari, a group formed to protect the Quäenaï. The Seven Rings were forged in the forges of Dol Niya, and they departed to Í Núvilvor, where Zÿ and Karya bonded with dragons, and Ralthyr revealed his bonded brother, Taurniodh, before they returned to the Castle.

A few months later, an Ilaniyan messenger who had been saved from B'omarrin Kashar before the quest awoke, bringing news of trouble in Ilaniya; a sorcerer had conquered the country. However, a report of bandits terrorising the north of Tílunur had also come in, as well as news of Avkazûrian longships raiding the south coast. Tywell had made his priority to deal with the bandits, but Ralthyr persuaded him to send Anamí and Karya to deal with the raiding ships, send Ralthyr and Wëls to deal with the Ilaniyan situation, and go himself with Zÿ and Ayduin to eradicate the bandits, leaving Althain in the Castle to monitor situations.

The plan was executed without too many hitches, although Ralthyr got captured, Wëls incapacitated, Anamí and Karya sent to the Skyfield, and Zÿ injured. When Tywell had dealt with the bandits, he returned to the Castle, where they had a respite of three years, where the only major events being a few brigand attacks and border disputes to settle. During this period, Wëls and Anamí were married, and Ralthyr took to secluding himself in Ïdur Athándrë for extended periods of time. However, the peace could not last. A mysterious figure known to most as the Heretic was terrorising Erasyn, trying to destroy the government.

The Einheryari travelled south to Erasyn in order to defeat him. After an extended conflict, which resulted in a large amount of casualties, they defeated the Heretic, who then killed himself rather than allow himself to be taken prisoner.

The next adventure came a month later, where Ralthyr was possessed by a malevolent spirit who forced him to attack the other Einheryari. Eventually the spirit was extracted from the warlock and destroyed, but the ramifications of his actions drove Ralthyr into even greater seclusion.

Soon after, a criminal arrived at the Castle, claiming that the B'omarrin Kashar was returning. Tywell persuaded his father to not immediately imprison him, instead letting him talk. After an extended interrogation session, Tywell decided to send Ralthyr to infiltrate the B'omarrin Kashar. Frustrated by his extended inactivity, Arnmor went with the elf. A few weeks later, Tywell received the news: the B'omarrin Kashar was invading. In Arnmor's absence and with Dylor's encouragement, Tywell marshalled and took command of the army to prepare their defence. But the rebels had mustered their forces quicker than any of them had expected, and they overwhelmed the Castle in one giant offensive. Tywell managed to escape into a network of secret tunnels under the Castle, along with Zÿ, Ayduin, and a portion of the soldiers. When Arnmor and Ralthyr arrived, having deserted the rebels before the mustering point, Tywell planned the retaking of the Castle.

During the attack, Tywell's forces were captured before Ralthyr and Arnmor managed to free them. In the process of retaking the Castle, King Teranik was killed, along with Korv and a significant portion of the B'omarrin Kashar. However, Ralthyr fled into the wilderness for reasons unknown to anyone.

During the first stages of recovery, Arnmor was crowned king, with the support of both Dylor and Tywell, as well as several members of the King's Council. Tywell supported Arnmor through the years that followed, including when news came from the south of a sorcerer that had taken over Avkazûr. Understandably, Arnmor tightened the defences around Tílunur while sending missives to Erasyn, Makalla, and Ilaniya to strengthen the treaties with those kingdoms. However, Tywell sent Wëls on an extremely important mission; find Ralthyr Wazavor and bring him back. After some time, Wëls succeeded, bringing Ralthyr to the Castle, where they developed a plan to defeat this sorcerer, known as Azartius.

Putting the plan into effect, the Einheryari travelled to Avkazûr to confront Azartius. However, they were all captured and put into the arena to fight beasts for the twisted amusement of Azartius and the people of Avkazûr. Ralthyr managed to escape, teleporting to a mountain in Ilaniya to think. Meanwhile, Tywell and the others were brought to Tílunur, where Azartius revealed that his armies had conquered the rest of the world while Tywell was captured. Broken by his failure, Tywell could only stand by and watch as Azartius brought out the Tílunuren nobles for execution. However, Ralthyr interceded at the opportune time, freeing the Einheryari and attacking Azartius. Before his efforts could amount to much, Azartius killed Ralthyr with a single burst of magic. Having said that, this was a two-edged sword. It provided Tywell with a distraction, which he used to kill Azartius.

But Ralthyr had been too late. Arnmor was dead.

Driven to the brink of insanity by the deaths of his father and brother, Dylor refused to take the throne, instead passing it down to Tywell. He was crowned shortly after, and started efforts to restore the world.

Tywell achieved many great things in his life, dying peacefully at the age of 75.
